Sycamore IL to Gull Lake Ontario Canada (fly-in fishing trip)
Every couple of years my best friend from college, his dad, and a bunch of retired cops from Sycamore IL go northern pike and walleye fishing in Ontario. We drive to Souix Lookout and then take a float plane north to Gull Lake.
This year, one of the drivers had to bail out of the trip, so my 2006 4Runner (4wd, v6, 147,350 miles) stepped up to the plate. Round trip was ~ 1,600 miles door to door. Even with both ripped cv boots, ran like a champ. A/C on the whole way. I didn't average the gas mileage yet, but I would guess, it was 19-20.
We took three vehicles up there (Tahoe, minivan (yuck) and mine). I had 8 totes of clothes, food, fishing gear etc stacked up in the back. Driving was pretty easy and the weight kept the runner planted when flying down the Canadian country roads.
I picked up a new rock chip in my windshield too from those roads! Canada was redoing some of them and the tahoe tossed a rock at me. Gonna get a new windshield installed under insurance in a month or two since I have a matching chip on the passenger side as well.
I didn’t get many photos along the way driving there but I’ll include the ones that I did take along with some of the fish we caught!
