In fact, all the people here that say that they are 'servicing' them in their driveways by using the multiple holes and pumping them up through the fill hole are still doing it incorrectly. I work for a manufacturer and the tranny's we have are setup quite similar. It really is important during these procedures that the trans is filled at a certain temperature (ie. exactly 47* C), whilst also having another person run it through the positions while filling. Like CJ3Flyr said, most of us have done the diff's and t-case, the tranny is lifetime unless you tow.
KB084RUNNER said:The trans holds 5.6 quarts and a drain should get about 1.5 qts out. If you do 5 two quart drain & refills (with some short driving in between)and then do the fluid level check with the overflow plug you will have about 90% new fluid which is the equivalent to a trans flush.
CJ3Flyr said:I think 5.6 may be close but still off. Isn't the total more like 5.6 + 4 or 6? I think the torque converter holds more than the transmission itself, doesn't it? I may have bad gouge...

Chris, not trying to single you out, just used the last post in the thread to set context.

I just had mine flushed and filled at the dealer and the tech let me watch. I purchased a full case from parts dept for 20% off and the tech used about another qt of his own to get the level perfect once it was up to temp.KB084RUNNER said:From the 2006 service manual:
3. TRANSMISSION FILL
(a) Fill the transmission with the correct amount of fluid as
listed in the table below.
(b) Reinstall the refill plug to avoid fluid splash.
Repair Fill Amount
Transmission pan and drain plug removal
1.3 L (1.37 US qts, 1.14 Imp qts)
Transmission valve body removal 3.9 L (4.12 US qts, 3.43 Imp qts)
Torque converter removal 5.3 L (5.60 US qts, 4.66 Imp qts)
Entire transmission assembly 5.3 L (5.60 US qts, 4.66 Imp qts)
I am going to look into this. Because I always thought about 12-14 quarts as well.
Maybee he used a little lees, I didn't measure the qt he used to top off after the 12 qt flush was done. The Tech told me he always keeps a qt over the case qty for topping off once the final check is done with the trans at the level check temp.KB084RUNNER said:I emailed Toyota...I will post their response. Now I am wondering if you add up the listed quantities you get 12.57/qts. So, maybe this is a Japanese to English translation issue.

So 11.3 qts in the trans and converter. I wonder how much the coolers and lines hold........I would imagine at least a half of qt or so?KB084RUNNER said:Here it is:
