T4R paleo thread

How do you guys feel about beef jerky? I've been eating a lot of it, but checked the label and noticed it has soy sauce....and I'm sure a ton of other preservatives.

If you eat a lot of it, buy a dehydrator and start making your own. Its super easy, fun to mix and match flavors, and you can control what preservatives you want to use. I use the regular stuff, but if you are worried about nitrates and whatnot, Nama Shoyu is a raw type of soy sauce that is tasty as hell and a lot better for you.

Paleo sucks if you're trying to gain weight. I've been on it for months, now. I cut my body fat percentage in half, from 12% to 4.9%. I just can't seem to break past 145 lbs.

I don't body-build though. I'm more of the Ironman type.

+ 1 for the Ironman type. Being a big dude is cool and intimidating until you actually go outdoors and do stuff in the real world, and realize you are hauling around an extra 20lbs of muscle you will never use.

I agree. There is definitely a right amount of muscle to have without being a burden. I learned that playing Aussie rules in grad school.....the big muscular guys lasted about 5min and they were spent. American football has given our culture the wrong idea of fitness. Bulk does not equal fitness.

Two months in and I'm down close to 20 pounds. Now that I've started working out regularly, its coming off faster.
The one thing I've noticed is I don't miss most of the foods I used to eat...there are still so many things that I can. And my energy level is still pretty high.
And I feel you on the fitness thing. Its not always about physical appearance...I weighed 240 last summer and completed a sprint tri...I guarantee anyone that saw me would not think I could finish that!

I strive for not only survival fitness, but martial fitness. The paleo diet is perfect for that. Remember rule #1: Cardio

:D

I realized a little while ago that I basically eat Paleo anyways, except my lady is vegan, so as a result I eat more greens than meat. That got me wondering; do you all cook most everything? or do some of you do the raw thing as well?

I cook most of it. Just a quick stir fry in a little olive oil for veggies. Meat baked or on the grill

I did Paleo last year along with crossfit. Lost over 50 lbs in 4 months. Favorite meal for me was two boiled eggs and a head of broccoli. Then my wife got pregnant and everything went the way of the DoDo. We still eat fairly clean especially finding out I have a decent case of the glutens. Need to get back into a good box though, nothing like a supportive family of people who ALL Hate burpees!

Well, I fell off the wagon. We had a new baby last Sunday, and I also worked about 60 hours between Sunday and Wednesday (no family time-off in my line of work). After all that I gained about 4lbs back. Now it's time to get back to eating right. :frusty:

Ya, the holidays will do that as well. My wife and I decided that we don't like being the difficult people you sometimes run in to that make hosts cook special food for them. If we go to a family or friends house, we eat what they cook. Granted we try and eat as close to paleo as we can, but we don't make it difficult for others.
I'd say we're at a 90:10 ratio, which so far has worked great for us.
That being said, there is no way I was going to miss out on Thanksgiving food! I feel like after 3 months of Paleo, we deserved some food with butter and carbs!!
I saw this the other day and thought it was pretty good...
