T4R Uwharrie National Forest Run 11/29/14

ah man thats xmas tree farm day with my ol lady. Hope you guys have a blast out there and i'll catch you on the next run! However, if anyone is in the Boone area on the 28th I'm going to hit richland road. feel free to roll with :hatsoff:

Yeah, now that you mention it, that's usually the day we go for our tree as well. Guess it'll have to be Friday or Sunday now.

Pretty sure I will not be able to make it out, as I'll be in Raleigh with the fam. If there's a chance some of the fam wants to go for a run, I'll let you know. Running totally stock right now (except 265/70/17 Cooper ATP), but I'd be willing to give it a go. Would be good to see everyone.

Next time.

MrsCplTurner and myself would like to attend. We were there Saturday with the TRDP, completely stock, and ran back and forth on the easy trail (Wolfs Den) with ZERO issues. The "P" metric Terra Grapplers make me nervous about poking a sidewall on the rocks, but they have an abundance of traction. No problems with break over on the whoops on that particular trail.
I would like to roll the easy trail with a couple of the stock runners that show up, and maybe ride along on some of the moderate trails.

Looking forward to it!!

Outstanding! Jarheads with 2015 TRD Pro's are always welcome in my book!

Looks like this is turning to a nice little run:party:Really looking forward to this trip! Going to do my oil and all my diff fluids this weekend in prep for the road trip, also finishing off the rear set up with the ext brake lines and ext bumpstops and adding 1.5 DS spacer on the driver side oh and lower link skids that have n\been siting in the garage that i gotta throw on. I was hoping to have my new bumper in and on for the trip but oh well it's all good it's still gonna be a blast! I'm down to run everything but i def want to run some more technical trails also at some point for those of us who are lifted and armored:thumb3:

Hell yeah man, it's shaping up to be one hell of a time. I'm getting pretty damn excited myself.

Been doing a lot of prep myself. New rear and front suspension. Gonna try to finish my transmission flush by then AND just ordered some new shoes yesterday, woot woot! Should be on by tomorrow I'd say. So how are you liking the Fierce Attitudes? Not gonna lie, those were on the short list.

Wait, so you been running MT LT rear WITHOUT the bump drops and brake lines? You a brave man. Yeah, it'd be nice to have your bumper for the trip, but hey, you don't have to be too worried about effing this one up since you've got a new one on the way.

Yeah, I don't think you'll have to worry about getting technical stuff in. We'll give you all you can handle lol.

Prep is key plus this will be my first real road trip with the 4Runner so a little extra TLC never hurts especially before i wheel her:lookout:
The Fierce have been great so far! Really good road manners and kicked ass off road the one time i've been able to get them out so far haha. We'll see with winter coming but i've heard their pretty good in those conditions as well.

Yeah so when we did my install we ran out of day light and didn't get to finish those couple things. It's been fine because the couple times i wheeled with it i just left the sway bar links connected but even with that it get a ridiculous amount of flex! Plus i left the brake line clip disconnected so it gave them a little extra play for now. So that will all be done friday and should be good to go..

Cool sounds like a plan!..

Wifey and I will be camping Saturday night...If anyone else is interested, we could get a group site near Badin Lake

This is something to think about since me and my brother in law will have to drive a couple hours from SC maybe we can come up the night before and camp so we don't have to get up and drive at the crack of dawn. I will talk it over with him and i'll PM you if anything..

Put me down as a tentative. I will be in WV all week on a hunting trip, at a college football game in Va Friday night but I have been wanting to check this place out so if I can get myself up in time I will be there....who needs sleep anyway.

This sounds like a great 4R trip, but I'm too far away. If anyone takes a DSLR along and shoots photos, I would be interested in doing a write-up on this trip for TCT Magazine 4Runner section.

:hat:

It's panning out to be,wish you could join! One of these days i hope to make out west to wheel with you guys out there. I will definitely be bringing my DSLR to get some nice shots. That would be pretty cool...

So I want to put this idea out there. It looks like we need to organize two separate groups for when we are out there:

- (A) would be for the "no restrictions" group that are at least mildly built up and willing to run any trail in the system.

- and (B) would be for the ones that would like to stick to the easy to moderate trails for trucks that are close to stock or with limited capabilities.

This will also aid in keeping the congestion down to a minimum as this is shaping up to be a far larger group than most of us have dealt with, meaning harder to organize. If you've wheeled with us, you know that we prefer our runs small for various reasons, but I'm hoping this one changes my mind regarding the size of our runs. This also will ensure that somebody doesn't end up on a trail that they don't want to be, or have no business being on.

So here's what I need from you guys. First, I need somebody to volunteer to lead Group "B". Preferably somebody that knows and is comfortable with the trail system or is at least versed in land navigation, map reading, and has a good general sense of direction.

Next I need you guys to specify which grouping that you'd like to run with "A" or "B".

Lastly, if you think that this is a bad idea and you do not want to split up and would rather try to stay together as one big group, please mention it here. But know in doing so, that you opt to go wherever the group leaders decide to take you and we will be in no way held responsible for any damage that may occur out there. And I'm not saying that to scare anybody off, we'll be there to help you and guide you (and repair you if need be), but I want to be realistic about it.

Once I receive everyone's feedback, I'll update the original post with group and leader information. Looking forward to it gents!

Hey Superman, I would like to roll with group B for this outing....I have only limited experience @ Uwharrie, So easy/moderate trail recommendations would be awesome. I will be bringing some light recovery gear, first aid, comms (FRS, 2m VHF), GAIA maps/gps, air compressor and tire repair stuff. If know one else with more experience at URE trail system wants to lead Team B, I guess I will throw my name in the hat.
If the timing works out, it would be cool if we could all regroup for a cookout during the trip.

If there is not a consensus for 2 groups, I would like to ride along with someone else to see some of the trails I have not been on.

I think he's gonna post on here, but I just sat down and had a discussion with Austin and I think what we'll do is a warm up run with the entire group where we'll stick to moderate trails first (Rocky Mtn Loop etc.). Then we'll break for lunch as usual and afterward we can tackle the more tricky stuff like Dickey Bell, Dutch John, and Daniel. At that time, those that want to break away can, those that want to ride along can, and those that want to tempt fate can. I think that's a sound game plan. Thanks to Austin (@aha2988), who will be the Group A leader for the advice.

Edit: Thank you for tossing your hat in the ring Corporal!
