What is the top height of the tailgate when it is open?

I'm curious to see if I can open it in my garage.

Depends which way! If I pull into the garage, leave the garage door open, the 4R door WILL hit the door above it. If I back in I can open the 4R door and it will NOT hit my ceiling. When I get groceries in the winter I back into the garage, that way I can close the garage door, open the rear gate, and still be able to get access to the the fooooood! Which way would you be most likely to open the 4R door and remember to measure that height with you garage door open too

I was thinking the same thing about pulling in backwards to open the 4R door but it is still a low ceiling and will have to measure it.

Tailgate opens to 87 inches to the 4Runner logo.

Mine fits perfectly under the door when I drive in. I have >9ft ceilings in the garage though.

You can always lower the rear window to gain access to the cargo area.

I have to back into the garage to open the tailgate fully. If not it will hit my rollup garage door.

I was thinking about lifting the te with toytec and adding a rack on top but Not sure if there will be any clearance left.

I have a somewhat different question: When you open the tailgate, how much does this add to the length of your T4R, i.e. how much does it extend past the rear bumper? I'm not sure I will be able to open and walk around it with the garage door closed.

Also, what are the years for the 5th and 6th gen's? I am lloking at a 2019 if that matters.

The 2022 is still a 5th generation 4Runner. There is no 6th generation yet. Lots of speculation when Toyota may make a 6th.

The 5th generation started in 2010.
