Taking the path of the 4Runner

just stopping by to say hello to this forum. Very recently I traded my 07 Tacoma prerunner for a 2011 4 Runner SR5 4x4. definitely not new to Toyotas but I have never owned a 4Runner and I've always been interested in them. My wife owns a 2012 Camry and we've been very happy with Toyota so far. I'm not new to 4 x 4's either, I've had six Jeeps, from wranglers to grand Cherokees. I'm very impressed and I feel like a kid that just got the coolest toy with this 4Runner, it has so many options and comforts. I got this one from a Toyota Dealership for $21K, it has 134K miles but it is in immaculate condition. Not a scratch inside or outside, it drives like a dream and it was one owner who serviced it throughout its life at Toyota. I wouldn't have bought any other car with this kind of miles unless it was a Toyota. Would you guys consider this a good deal or should I start erasing the grin off my face?

I honestly can't say if it was a good deal or not... The prices on Toyota Trucks/SUVs is ridiculous these days...

So in your area, for that condition and mileage, at dealer pricing 21k could be a steal?

In any case I'd be happy you have such a nice looking 4Runner!

True that. At any rate I'm only financing about $15k, they gave me $10k for my 07 Tacoma and this 4Runner has definitely put a grin in my face.

I came from a Tacoma as well and haven't looked back. And that's no slight to the Tacoma.

Lets be realistic you have driven Jeeps, if you paid 40k for the Toyota it would have been a "good deal" :blue jump:

Tough to call on the deal without knowing the market, in general used 4runners and tacoma are not "good deals" because they hold value so well but if your happy, it was a good deal.

I recently saw some used 2014/2015 4Runners with 30-50k miles, and dealerships are asking only a few thousand less than new. I guess it means Toyota SUVs/trucks are good "investments?"

I bought a 2010 LE on August 2 that was also loaded and in the same condition . It had 138,000 miles on it and I paid $19,800 all in--taxes, tags, dealer prep, etc. I am absolutely loving this vehicle and like you would no way consider buying anything other than a 4Runner with those kind of miles. My previous vehicle was an '03 Sport that had 271,000 miles on it when I traded it on this one. The motor was still strong, but the a/c went up and was going to cost $2100 to fix so figured time to move on. Even with no air and 271,000 miles I got $2500 on the trade.

Wow! $2500 for you trade in with those miles? Very nice. Then again, it's a Toyota :dance:

My buddy bought a used '07 FJ with about 100k on the odometer for $19k-ish and in about a year it his KBB was $21k; he still kept it, but we laughed at the ironic price increase (this was just last year).

Not really, I still owed about $2k on it and it was the base pre runner model, no power locks, windows, no cruise control and it was an access cab. I bought it for $13k 4 years ago. I was actually expecting about $8k for the trade in.

Interesting, KBB even for the lowest grade 2007 at 100k miles lists trade around $12k 4x2. Might be a regional thing. You do live in TX and it's not an overcompensating truck (*not a bad thing), so the values must be lower there. It'll be interesting to see them list it at 15k next week though.

* When I drove a 2L 4cyl dodge D-50 I slayed the ****y. I would constantly hear: "I'm glad you don't drive a huge truck, those guys always overcompensate".
