tallest battery under the hood?

Hey guys, i am going the dual battery route and got some good advice a few days ago.. now i just took my stock battery out and found the measurements to be right around 9" tall (including post). All deep cycle batteries in the group/size i am looking for are almost 10" tall. I don't want to end up ordering a battery that wants to pop new holes through my hood. Anyone have experience going with a bigger than stock battery? thanks!

fyi this is the mounting location (i will not be using optima's)

A lot of us have put in the sears die hard deep cycle group 31 Marine battery which is pretty massive. In my case in a '14 though.

Edit: hmm sorry that's no help. It's only 8 inches tall. Just super wide :/

I had my big Interstate under the hood for a bit, it's 8 1/2 inches and add some ~3/4 inch tall battery terminals on top, it barely fit, I'm talking a hair bigger and the hood wouldn't have shut at all. I wouldn't reccomend anything over 8 1/2 inches tall (to the very top) to be safe.
 
No was afraid that would be the case. All I can find with the dimensions that will fit (10" length, 8" height and 6.5" width) are optima yellow tops. I've heard so many horrible reviews since their chinese acquisition.. Anyone have any alternatives to an optima with those dimensions? Thanks
 
I used a Diehard Platinum (Odyssey AGM) 34M. It is 8" tall to the top of the terminals. I had to put the 1" plastic spacer under it so the battery hold-down would fit it. Awesome battery - deep cycle, and about $180 at Sears (usually on sale).

unfortunately for me i only have access to our canadian batteries and it has proven quite a struggle to find a deep cycle under 8".

Sounded like he really wanted to do a dual though. two 31Ms would be er... tough to pull off :D

But yeah I was looking at going dual but decided to go the 31M route for now and keep an eye on the usage. But with a 25 amp pull for 135 minutes, that's an insane about of spare power. As long as your traveling daily anyway...

The largest would be 2x31s as bajataco did in the link. It makes more sense to have one large one small starter.
 
When the battery in the puppy hauler dies I'm going to look at putting a Group-65 battery in like is in the grand cherokee of mine.....its 7 1/2 tall but not reverse post.......

Its a 90ah battery with 150min reserve 850cca
 
i think i am going to go with the optima yellow top ( 3 year free replacement ) and put it next to my stock starter battery. Just have to figure out a tray and a way to secure them. Thinking of just cutting some aluminum to the length of both batteries then bolting it down to where the stock battery tray lies. Unfortunately no welding abilities yet so it might get interesting. It looks like some people have been able to modify the stock tie down to hold two batteries.
