Well, I’m finishing up my family vaca to Taos NM (we leave in the morning)... and may I say, I’ve never missed my 4Runner more than I have this week... EVEN WITH ZERO SNOW AND BLUE SKIES. We took the wifey’s QX60 for the comfort on the drive here, and the DVD players for the kiddos. But once we got here, what I already knew would happen came immediately true. I was weeping for the Runner...
Pot-hole laden roads... dust everywhere... dirt roads... little bit of mud from melt-off (but not too terrible all things considered)... hauling dirty ski gear.. etc., etc. Everything people own a 4Runner for.... and mine is sitting at home in the garage damnit.
Don’t get me wrong, the QX60 was fun (for a family wagon) on the mountain twisties, and it had plenty of room to do everything we needed to do/haul.... but my Runner (with KDSS and Billy’s) would have taken the roads almost as well, and been so-at-home here doing all of these activities. And instead of trying NOT to destroy anything in the wife’s car, we could have just laughed and thrown it into the back of the Runner (dirt just makes it look better). Sigh. It’s easy to see and understand why so many people own these trucks in this environment. They perform so well.
We tried playing the “4Runner Game” while driving around town (guessing how man we’ll see before arriving at said destination), but it got way out of hand when we were hitting double digits within like a 5 mile drive. They are EVERYWHERE around here.... 3rd gens, 4th gens, and some 5th gens. Most stock form; but saw a few with some work done.
We had a great time. Kids took lessons and learned to ski (a little). I took lessons at 42 and learned to ski (a little). Taos and Taos Ski Valley are very pretty, and not too bad of a drive from N. TX. I believe we’ll come back again soon, but next time, we’re bringing the Runner! :becky:
