Thank You T4R For All Your Support For My Best Friend, Fallen Deputy Jeremiah Mackay

I just wanted to say thank you to so many members of the T4R community who sent me emails, texts, and facebook messages when they heard the news this week that Sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay, who was shot and killed by Chris Dorner on Tues was my closest childhood friend.

"The kid" is even sending me a US flag in honor of my friend Jer. That gesture put tears in my eyes and I am very grateful. Thank you.

My sincerest condolences to you and his family.

My best friend from childhood on, became a Police Officer, and by all accounts was known for being one of the good ones. He passed away nine years ago next month, leaving behind a then 5 year old Son.

Do all you can for his family, as it's going to be very hard on them.

Jer was always the most passive, kind hearted person growing up. I couldn't believe it 15 years ago when he told me he wanted to become a cop. No stereotyping, but most cops I've met wanna kick ass and take names, which is totally fine with me. But Jer just wanted to do something meaningful with his life. His dad served as a firefighter for the same county for 30 years and they were just good people.

Don't get me wrong, Jer became a total bad ass while serving on the Sheriff's Dept., got promoted to Detective, instructed firearms training, among many other things during his career. But in the beginning, I always thought he was an unlikely candidate for a cop. But he proved I don't know jack sh!t, lol. He really did become a deputy for all the right reasons, and he proved that beyond any shadow of a doubt when he gave his life to track down that f*cking murderer. I know he saved other's lives by giving his.

Hey brian, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your friend. He sounds like he was a terrific friend and a great officer.

I understand how you feel as I lost a former co-worker and dear friend last year in a senseless act too- US Park Ranger Margaret Anderson.

There was a nice piece on the news tonight about Jeremiah. Breaks my heart for his children and loved ones. The loss of a friend is never easy, and knowing what a kind and gentle man Jeremiah was makes it that much worse.
So sorry for the loss of your friend and Sheriff of the community.
