The 4Runner took on some hail

Unfortunatly got caught by a sudden bad hail storm and it broke every vent visor and got a variety of dings all over but the hood and front fenders really took a beating. Talk about resale value taking a beating;I'm a bit sad but if I can get my insurance to cover a new hood and fenders I can live with the rest.

Wow...sorry to hear! Were you planning on selling it soon? Your 3rd gen is old...does it help resale that much by the time that you sell it? At the same time, claiming this on your insurance may raise rates in the future?? Disclaimer: I know very little about insurance and how they work.

I talked to my friend who works in body and paint repair and he said since it's paid for they'll assess the damage and cut me a check and then let me fix it how I see going about it. If I can replace the hood and get a few of the more noticeable dings fixed with paintless dent repair, the stuff on the roof doesn't bother me so much.

Shouldn't affect my rates since I haven't had a claim since '99 and that was a major claim and it didn't change anything.

My buddy in Lone Tree had his brand new CTS get hammered last year. The claim was 11k and he said his insurance hasn't budged.

Better this than the Focus. suckage though. I haven't seen that much hail since I was in Texas.

I just detailed the Focus today and just got it back in the garage about a half hour before it hit. The Focus woulda' really been beat to shit.

Looks like the damage is mostly contained to the flat surfaces and no dings on the driver's side and about 6 dings on the passenger side right under the windows so maybe just a new hood and get the fenders dents fixed and I can live with the roof being a bit beatup but it still sucks.

I can';t imagine how bad it would've been if the Focus was caught outside as that sheetmetal is stretched really thin.

That sucks! I just went through the same thing this spring so I know how you feel. Finally got it all taken care of... and got a new hood Hope you make out as well as I did!

Actually I was just looking at it from my wife's view as it's pretty brand new and she loves that car and we do have a little money into it but in retrospect it's more replaceable than my 4Runner and if it was totaled we coulda' moved up to an ST. :car:

Yeah,it's rough with all the time and sweat I have put into keeping my 4Runner clean save for it's off road scrapes and bruises but those I look at as "earned" damage.

Damn that sucks since I know how well you take care of your 4runner. It could very well get totalled if they deem the damage to be too much. I'd make sure they don't do that and just get the check cut for the agreed upon amount.

There was a thread recently where a 3rd gen suffered some seemingly minor haul damage and the insurance assessed over $3000 in damages.

Well,the adjuster was just out this morning and he actually saved it from being totaled by making the roof able to be fixed using paintless dent repair instead of a full replacement which would've totaled the truck and he cut me a check for $3556. I think I'll have the sides and fender dings fixed and get a new hood and use the rest for something fun for the truck.

Can someone clue me in on what's "normal" for hail out here? I was told it happens but is infrequent. However it's hailed at least 6 times since June... mostly small stuff. Is this uncommon or the norm? I've also been told it gets worse the closer you get to the plains - is that true or bs? Just curious.

Sounds like typical CO weather, in that there is hardly ever any regularity to any sort of weather pattern. I doubt any meteorologist could nail down anything more specific than the fact that it tends to rain in the summer, snow in the winter, and its usually sunny. It also has been known to snow 12 months out of the year from time to time.

I've definitely noticed that it tends to hail a lot more out on the front range than where I live. Reading about the hail storms that hit Nebraska and Kansas make me cringe. Golf ball sized ice falling from the sky? jeepers.
