The Black Plague has started

I have owned her for 3 weeks now and the madness is slowly taking over. Up until last weekend, I've been tending to maintenance. Last week she received the Tundra brake upgrade.
So Far:
New valve cover gaskets
New Clutch master and slave
Cleaned IAC
New Plugs
Red Line tranny fluid and fresh radiator fluid.
Swap to Valvoline full Syn and dealer D3 filter.

I picked up a Tundra caliper and ran a test fit on the truck. I was glad to see it fit without issue but found that my hard lines were rusted bad. In the first pic, you'll see the old and new lines. The old line broke when I attempted to loosen the fitting on the old caliper. The new Tundra brakes are sweet. The Runner stops effortlessly. The biggest shock was the shear weight difference between the rotors. Now I'm looking at lifts, sliders, racks, bumpers, radios (extra class ham) and so forth.

Great start! I really want to do the tundra upgrade myself... just not in the budget yet, but definitely a must do! Once the mod bug bites, it's a hard itch to get rid of.

Aren't the Tundra brakes great? I love them. It makes stopping much less scary, and the beefier rotors don't warp like the stock ones do.

Did you go with the 231mm rotors?

When I picked her up, within a day one of the front brakes was squealing. The brake upgrade cost me about the same as swapping the components for stock Runner calipers/rotors. I haven't modded anything for years. Used to pour money into a turbo'd Honda. I'm glad to have a vehicle worth putting a few bucks into.

I love them. The brakes were decent before hand but now its effortless. It was one upgrade that was worth every dollar. They are the 231mm - 13WL calipers.

Every T4R owner needs the Tundra upgrade, the stock brakes are just damn scary.

It's kind of amazing that they didn't come with these brakes to begin with.

Excellent start! Thank you for modding your truck the correct way with safety and general maintenance first. I notice a lot of people are smart with their trucks on this site.

I appreciate that 4Runner4TW. I'm pretty much down to replacing a few light bulbs now and fixing a couple broken bolts on the front skids. I love this truck and want & need it to last. I'm a firm believer that there is a huge difference between being hard on a vehicle and neglecting it. I expect to break things down the road, but not because they've broken from excess play, leaking oil and so forth.

Starting her off nice. The Tundra brake upgrade was one of my first mods. Probably one of the best mods I have done so far. No more warped rotors, pulsating brakes, and the thought that i cant stop in time. The Tundra brake upgrade is a MUST DO for every 4runner owner!

No grinding on the rims with the 13WL's? Even after reading all the threads, I'm still unsure if it's necessary. Most say you have to, some say no problem. I'm trying to make a decision between the 199's and the 231's before I purchase everything. Nice path on the plague. The cult grows -

go big or go home :reddance:

It would be nice to see a company that actually sold this upgrade/package together. It would definitely help take any of the guesswork out of it as well as help with the piecing together of the kit! Great upgrade, nicely done!

Lol ill piece together the parts for you if you want. And i would easily minimize any over head costs :) :yo:

Depends which rims you have. Post up a picture if you don't know the definite name of your wheels.

Personally, IMO, it wasn't necessary. This Runner stopped like my last 5. The flip side is that I needed to replace the brakes and this didn't really cost anything extra. The difference in braking is noticeable and if given the choice, I would do it again. Yep, the 13WLs cleared just fine. I bought one to test fit before ordering everything else.

Wasn't much guess work. The only issue with a kit is "will it fit?".
I picked up 2x 13WL Calipers from Orielly Auto Parts.
1x Left caliper part number #19-2712
1x Right caliper part number #19-2713
2x Raybestos 96931R Pro Grade rotors from Amazon
1x Wagner QC976 ThermoQuiet Ceramic Disc Brake Pad Set from Amazon

The hard lines were from the dealer. $14 each.

My final cost with fresh fluid, tax and hard lines was just a touch over $300

good old fashioned 6-spokes (16" ,7.7's -stock 96 limited rims) -I do not want to grind the rims down. If that's the case, I'll get the 199's -

What is so difficult about it?

-go to autozone.com
-plug in 2005 tundra ext cab
-stick the calipers/rotors/pads in your cart
-pay them money

These are the 3 main split spokes right? In that case you would need to grind in order to fit the 231mm, so yea if you want to keep those wheels 199 is your choice.

Some people dont like NAPA/Oreilly/Autozone rotors, pads, or remaned products :l And would pay for the convenience apparently. And like i said, i would be willing and ready :D Also the 05 specs dont fit some rims, like afg10000

thanks for the conformation -I was pretty sure that was the case. Going to get the 199's and put them in my pile of goodies waiting to be installed -

Apparently there is more to it than just go to Autozone, pick, and play. There seems to be two different size calipers, and some may or may not fit on stock wheels. I would happily pay for the convenience of having it all together, being OEM Toyota hardware, and having it shipped to my front door...granted the price isn't too out of whack!!
