I think that's just the 1080p60 improvement over 24 or 30.

This is the type of "wheeling" I love to do. Roads where 95% of the ride is mostly easy with the occasional challenge to keep things interesting. I've driven hundreds of miles of utility service roads in SoCal, but never recreationally.

Unfortunately around here it's all sandstone ledges and red clay mud pits. We have national forests and parks, but everything is either maintained/graded gravel (2WD) or closed to all motorized traffic, or ATV/motorcycle only. I know of exactly four 4WD-only roads on public land, and those are only a few miles each.

Yeah, we try to go wheeling when we go home, but I am really just getting into it. My 73' Scout II was great off-road... when it was running... and that wasn't often. I didn't get my first 4Runner until we had moved to Texas.

I think the hyper real effect is because (OP correct me if I'm wrong) shot in 1080 60P. The 60p is know for that hyper real effect.

Sure, since he shot it in 1080 it would have to be anything other than 24/29.95/30 fps. It is much like 120hz+ LCD TV's, double or even quadruple the redraw rate of a standard 60hz monitor, 4K and 8K video do it too. I was simply curious since you can get a decent prosumer/consumer camera now for under $1500.

I got to see Canon's 8K demo at NAB this year and lol it nearly made me barf... well that is an exaggeration, it made me a little queasy, then again maybe it was the convention center hot dog :puke: :D

Yes, I shoot everything in 1080p @60FPS. Helps with the slow-mo shots too.

Maybe one day we will go 4K, but for now the XA30 rocks!
 
I spent like 20 minutes searching for part two last night after I watched part one and then realized you had just posted the first part. Felt dumb after that.

Because the fact he drove a 5th Gen is incidental to the video. The video was about planning a route and taking an epic family vacation. Replace his vehicle with a 3rd Gen or even a Jeep and it wouldn't have changed the essence of the trip at all. The participants in the other forums would probably appreciate it. And they'd really appreciate the route coords.

I followed his YouTube channel and he does have a few 5th Gen specific videos. The snorkel install video is awesome :bravo: But this one is general.

Thanks for following our channel! And thanks for the support, I never thought that snorkel install video would have over 25,000 views. I almost didn't post it because I thought it was cheesy! (And I still think it's cheesy, probably why it has the most dislikes!)

Some may say cheesy, I say realistic. My hand would also be shaking after drilling a 4" hole in the sheet metal of a $40k vehicle. :wow: Fit up problems, extreme shop temps, all real issues. Much more believable than the standard how-to video where every part fits perfectly, every bolt is easy to reach with standard tools, and nothing gets broken.

Just curious, but you drilled the mount holes slightly smaller than recommended, then had problems with the fit-up. Would the fit-up issues still been there had you drilled the mount holes 9/16" instead of 1/2"?

I'm still glad I went small at first because I used the die grinder to make the opening a slot in the direction I needed instead of a round large hole which means more sheet metal to help support the fender washer behind it.
It would have been really bad if I started with a 9/16" hole then had to open that up even more.

Dude, you are that guy!!! LOL, I showed my wife your videos. I told her "hun, this is exactly what I want us and the kids to get into!" We both loved seeing your little girl drive and she got excited about the idea of going with our kids.

So thank you for the videos, you put imagery, just as I imagined, in tangible format that my wife was able to understand. Great work and we are looking forward to more :thanks:

Thanks so much! Can't tell you how excited we are to be inspiring other families (and individuals) to get out and soak up some nature.
Overlanding is such a great method to do that since there is a certain level of convenience with the right setup. The key is to practice often, and learn from your mistakes. Once you develop a routine, it makes going so much easier and enjoyable.
