Better than a Tundra? Really?

Not better per say, I just know the tundra has had its fair share of recalls etc.

Also the new ecoboost engine is light years ahead of anything Toyota is putting in its trucks and SUVs.

Don't get me wrong, I love Toyota but when it comes to trucks you can't beat an f-150

I'd have to agree. I just sold my 08 Tundra 5.7 and almost bought an Ecoboost. The power delivery and the fuel economy is impressive. I test drove an 09' Harley Davidson F150 a couple years ago and loved the interior and exterior but the 5.4 was a hog.

Ford has really stepped it up with their engine selections. Ecoboost, new 5.0, and the 6.2 are all light years ahead of the old 5.4. I almost regret getting another t4r but the payment much easier on my wallet.

I still consider ford a complete joke. With personal experience, family experience, and stats, Toyota is a overall better company. Disagree

I'd have to see objective proof of this one. Especially considering that this very board just featured a T4R that burnt to the ground due to a transmission fire.

The mileage is due to it being a twin-turbo V6. Any twin-turbo V6 will get nowhere near the towing mileage that a similarly equipped V8 will get; pretty much all the reviews say this. In short, they all say that if you're buying the truck to do pretty much nothing BUT towing, go with the 5.0 or 6.2. Otherwise, the Ecoboost will be more than sufficient.

As far as 'eh' factor goes, depends upon how you look at it. From what I've read online (not withstanding the occasional "My truck only got 1MPG towing a trailer full of feathers downhill!" reviews), they're both equally capable of pulling the same weight. Friend of mine owns an Ecoboost and regularly tows about 7000 lbs; he gets about 11MPG. Maybe not quite as good as the Tundra's 5.7L, this is true; but unladen, his mileage is definitely better than the Tundra's. So your mileage may vary. *shrug*

Past this, you're correct - it's opinion and personal experience. I've owned a Ford Taurus that was *THE* biggest POS ever made. However, I've also owned 2 vehicles (2008 Ford Fusion with 65K, and 2004 F150 with 147K) that are excellent. The F150 has yet to have ANYTHING happen to it; with the old 4.6L V8, it still gets 19/20MPG (which is NOT normal lol).

For the record, I'm not making an argument that Ford is better than Toyota; after all, I DID just study SUVs for months, and decided a 4Runner couldn't be beat. I AM making the argument that Ford has made huge strides in reliability and capability.

No, the tranny fluid was hot and it was rubbin up against something, and that's why the fire started, had it not been rubbing, then no fire.

Side note I've never seen an f150 fire where I work.

What's Toyota 5.7 get while towing? Probably not much better.

What fords have you had experience with if you don't mind me asking?

Id trade my 4runner for an ecoboost f150 in a heartbeat if we didn't have our first kid on the way. Don't get me wrong I love my 4runner but Ford knows trucks, that's why they sell more of them than anything else currently on the road.

You are correct; I remember that it wasn't specifically something in the transmission itself.

However, were it a Ford Explorer that burnt to the ground, the specifics wouldn't matter. All that would matter was that it was a Ford that burnt to the ground. LOL

This being said, I didn't want a Ford Explorer - there's a reason I bought a 4Runner. My only point is that subjective opinion and personal experience by one or two or even several people alone shouldn't determine the reputation of a vehicle.

On another note, I've been working at the same Ford dealer for the past 6 years in parts and 4 years before that out in the shop turning wrenches and have seen my far share of crap from the blue oval. Some of the stuff they put out in the mid 90s to early to mid 00s was complete trash.

In the past say 5-6 years they have come a long way.
I still see recalls on brand new vehicle here on the lot, but what mass produced product doesn't have anything wrong with them. If I worked at a Toyota or a Honda dealer I would see their f**k ups too. So no manufacturer is immune to a "perfect" vehicle.

In my 10+ years working on cars and working in a dealership, I've come the realization that ALL cars are pretty much junk.

Oh hell yes. We bought a 1997 Ford Taurus (the 'fish car') back in 2008. That thing was THE biggest POS I've ever driven. Not even the Dodge Ram I owned back in 2002 - 2004 was as bad as the Taurus was, because it didn't leave me stranded.

We traded it in towards a 2008 Ford Fusion, and it's given us NO troubles. In fact, the reason we got it was because resale value and reliability is comparable to the Camry. (Seriously.)
