The stigma of bracket lifts

Just curious... why is bracket lifts more accepted at a Tacoma community than the 4runner community ???

Just curious... because I've seen alot of Tacos with bracket lifts around my area more than lifted 4runners.

Form over function? I've known a lot of people with bracket lifts that have bent/broken suspension components from simple glancing curb strikes on pavement.

Maybe there are good ones? Everything I have seen are bubba-engineered random brackets, tubes, and questionable "reinforcements"

The ones I've seen are all Fabtech and procomp stuff ... mostly on Tacomas

I'm pretty sure a good amount of procomp and fabtech bracket lifts work like this:

Cecil wants some wheels for his truck.

He goes to 4wp, orders some wide black wheels with a squirrly offset. Maybe some new procomp quadruple x-treme tires for the new wheels. Whats that? I should go 35s? Ok.

Books an appointment, they install the wheels and tires, but guess what? It rubs like a mofo... Cecil feels remorse for the black wheels and MT tires. He can't believe the 22 year old salesmen that told him that they wouldn't rub was wrong.

"How can I fix this?" says Cecil.

Well, you can get a lift kit. 6" lift, $1500. No more rub.

"Ok" says Cecil.

And another silverado er, tacoma, heads to the alignment shop with 3lbs of weights on their new wheels.

Couple of reasons. One being 4Runner has a much higher COG. Putting another 3" under it just makes it super sketchy in trail conditions. Fine for mud or whatever. Tacomas do much better with them....

Because cutting out the frame(crossmember) is lame. Really can't run any bigger tires either.

I'll be the devils advocate... there's nothing wrong with full bracket diff drop. In all honesty I'd love to have something that would drop the entire front diff down with the Dobinson lift I just installed. The CV angles are all wacky, and that's the only solution. We have limited availability to things like fiberglass fenders, nothing for the rear, so stuffing big meats is out of the question without major sheet metal surgery.
Plus, having a lift that used aftermarket knuckles instead of needing upper control arms would be nice to boot...
but, if you're wanting a serious rock crawling/mud rig, the 4Runner just isn't it. Never will be. It's an expedition style rig. Period
