These used prices are getting wild

The used car prices are crazy because there are NO new cars for sale. I went to the largest Toyota dealer in SLC today and he had ONE new car for sale (I think it was a Camry). Very little on the lot, but they all had "Sold" signs on them.

Was told that most of the incoming cars are already sold, or sell immediately as soon as they hit the lot.

Yep, my local dealer has most of their incoming 4Runners held with deposits.

Got a quote yesterday of $44,700 for my 21 SR5P from Carvana.

Pretty crazy. 7 months and 5500 miles into my ownership and it's worth roughly $2,000 above sticker.

I was offered 45k for my 2021 TRD ORP 2 days ago from Vroom, that's more than MSRP on mine and I've had it 6 months. I did carvana as well, but I'm still waiting on the price. Its not just 4runners, I have friends in the auto industry, everything is way up in price.

I got a VROOM quote for our 2014 4Runner Limited with 81,000 miles in excellent shape zero rust, paint is very good etc.. for $27,500! Not that we're looking to sell right now but we bought this thing for $34,500 in 2016 now that's minimal depreciation!

I ended up selling my 2019 PRO. I don't know another situation where I'd profit from a vehicle after driving it for a couple years. Plan to get an older one as a second car later on when prices come down...hopefully ha.

I've bought 2 at msrp within 30 days. White 1st, then found a lunar. Unfortunately both were 55k msrp, loaded with options.

I just had my banker from my credit union run the numbers for my 4runner. 2016 Trail, KDSS, 135350 miles. Value is at 35,613!

Credit union valuation may be the limit they are willing to lend on that particular year and mileage. They are in the business of cutting loans and that’s likely the number they are referring to.

Imagine telling your friends you just bought a 2016 4Runner Trail with 135k for $35k. They’d tell you that you could’ve done better. On the flip side, as a seller, if you find an offer like that, take it! LOL

When does everyone think these crazy prices will get back to normal?

When taxes climb to pay for the cost of all the programs, or when government spending shrinks to the level paid for by taxes. Either of those comes with a severe recession - worse than 1982 because the gap is larger. When the recession comes, prices for non-essentials such as 4Runners will drop.

It's coming sooner or later. These massive inflation rates will bring people to a breaking point.

Think it will be another few years before a significant market drop. Wife and I discussed trading in the 17 4runner with 48k miles but are going to hold off. I just installed 2021 LED head & fog lights on it. We will eventually trade in the audi RS7 for another SUV or truck.

FWIW, I was talking to a buddy of mine this weekend who's a sales manager at a large Toyota dealership. He said we could see the market begin to correct as soon as the end of July. He said he's seeing where new inventory is being produced and queued up for his dealership. Also, I keep looking at carvana and vroom quotes on my PRO and it has dropped big time over the past week.

I was about to trade in my 4runner 135,700 miles 2016 Trail. The dealer was going to give me 26k for it. Don't know if that's fair or good. In the end they were taking to long to complete the deal so I just walked out

Out of curiosity, I went through the process to see what Vroom would give me. Came back with an offer to buy at $32,130 after entering the VIN and all details of my 2018 TRD Off Road Premium, KDSS with 110K miles.
