Thin budget in San Diego! lol

Hi everyone, I am looking for a vehicle to occasionally commute and that can also tow a light trailer with my bike to the race track every month or two (3 hrs. away). I can only afford a little over $3K- CL San Diego has quite a few T4R's in my price range (95,96,97's mostly, high miles 175-225K) just trying to learn what the major issues are and what to look for...

Been doing as much research as I can and my head is spinning...Ford Exploders, Subaru's, Durango's, etc. Narrowed it down to the T4R and Subaru Outback, prefer the T4R but mileage goes in favor of the Subaru-

I read on here (forgot where) that we can post up T4R ad's and folks will help dissect them? LOL. Where would you recommend that?

The Subaru folks were not down with that at all!

Welcome to T4R Gibby! I recommend a 3rd Gen (96-02) over the 2nd Gen. Especially if u plan on towing. It has the vastly superior 3.4 over the 3.0.

Pretty clean. But beware the 3.0 and the blown head gasket issue these engines are notorious for. That's why I recommend the 3rd Gens(96-02)which have the 3.4.

I agree, although it does not look like I can afford one that "new" unless I get real lucky. I have an interesting one for ya:

I am willing to travel quite a ways, especially for something like that...Exactly what I want! Counting the days until I get my refund in the mailbox. I scour CL and there are a TON of T4R's within a few hours (I am 2 hrs from L.A.) so I feel confident about finding something (so far! lol)

I have honestly not been paying a ton of attention to stuff that is say... <$2700, my mistake. I am obsessed actually, like a little kid excited for x-mas. I asked my fiance if I was too old (43) to be this excited about a 15 year old vehicle with 200K miles on it, she just kinda tilted her head like a dog and smiled.
