Things to look out for when buying an 85?

So I'm going to go look at a mildly built 85 tomorrow and was wondering if there was anything I need to look out for? It's a 22re 5speed. Thanks

Unless you're in the SW, big thing would be frame rust.

Typical stuff I'd check when buying any 4x4.
Leaks, tires, Hubs working correctly, engine running smoothly, damage, corrosion (electrical, frame, and body), signs of slipping clutch, t case shifts and trans shifts smoothly, anything broken. cant think of anything else right now. If those all check out smog will probly be the only real issue

Thanks guys, I'm in San Diego so rust shouldnt be an issue but I dont know where the truck began life so Ill check anyway.

From what I know about it is its a friend of a friends truck and the motor was completely rebuilt recently, its got a set of headers, a 3 inch lift and its pretty clean for a 25 year old truck. My mechanic friend who works with the guy selling it said he wouldnt hesitate to take it on a 5k mile trip as is.

He was thinking some where between $4500-5k for it. This sound about right?

unless its got some chromoly shafts in the front and lockers and geared all around I wouldnt do more than $3500. and if its a cheap 3 inch body lift I wouldnt go more than $3000

Don't have any pics but it had some Chinese 22re replica that killed it for me. And it wasn't nearly as clean as the guy made it sound. Had rust, the interior needed help, it needed tires, the axle seals were gone, the brakes were shot, and that damn Chinese engine.

I'm really starting to think importing a bj70 would be easier than trying to find a decent 1st gen for a good price.
