Thinking about a hood scoop

I was thinking about putting a hood scoop on my 99 4Runner SR5. I heard you could use a Tacoma hood for that. Where would you find one that is reasonably priced and do you have to do any body modifying?

I think you heard wrong man. As far as I know only the 04+ tacomas came with a scoop. Look for a 3rd gen sport 4runner. There are a few threads on this, and your local Toyota dealer should be able to get you part numbers, and the parts, ifyou cannot find them new.

just a quick question: are these scoops just molded plastic? on the bonnet, or is there an actual cut out in the bonnet that allows air to flow through to the engine?

I purchased a unpainted sport hood from Cert-Fit auto body supply warehouse. Local pickup the hood cost me $70 plus tax. Cert-fit has warehouse throughout USA. Purchased scoop guts through a yotatech.com sponsor dealership out of Salt Lake City, Utah for $160. Painted through AutoBody shops will run $200-$300.

A dealership will cost you approx. $800 OEM parts, if they install and paint $1200.

Too bad someone doesn't make the guts for the scoop. It cost more for the guts then it does the hood. LOL

Honestly, the important part of the guts is the fiberglass insert. The rest could be purchased easily or found laying around the old garage. The rest of the kits is a few nuts, bolts, wire mesh. There are some gaskets but in it's place, I used a tube of silicone to seal everything.

Get this..... the fiberglass insert is $135 of the total. LOL
