Thinking of a build, Thoughts?

I have a 99 limited as a daily driver clean 180K miles
Picked up a 96 SR5 4wd with 260K, 1 owner calif. car. Maint. done at local dealer, no rust, but does need paint, previous owner put in a new transmission. I did the VC gasket and the top of the cylinder head looked good, looked for signs of head gasket failure (simple checks) but didn't find any, I was thinking of T-belt & WP & all pullies and..... while I'm in there, All new suspension, Pretty mild nothing radical & all the other upgrades/modifications, I will do all the work my self so it will be only parts, I am a little anal so most parts will be OEM, the truck runs good.
Would it be worth putting in a few $$ ? excluding paint (pricey)
For what I paid I figure I could put at least 2K and still be ahead of what I could get. But intend to keep it.

What say you?

What’s the purpose? Building for a certain use? Just want to wrench? You plan to keep it?

If it makes you happy to put the $ into it, go for it. Especially if you stay ahead and it needs it.

My paint is oxidized but I put $ in because I enjoy it. If I had any rust I’d look for another to enjoy. To each his own.

Maybe share a pic and a few ideas of what you have in mind.

Will be a 2nd vehicle, I can put a little money into it know what I will have and be cheaper than something newer,
I would go through the suspension all bushings, springs, shocks and steering components, any modifications that will be needed or enjoyed.
Maybe plan on a small sleeping trailer, A frame pop up or? Something lite.
After getting my 99 up to snuff I find the trucks easy to work on and rebuild able,
I have tried to upload a pic but they always end up upside down?

Thanks,
