Thoughts and Prayers

My thoughts and prayers to the victims of the Newton shootings...this kind of mindless shooting is another form of terrorism that we need to fight.

Prayers go out to all the families affected.

I believe once more of the details become available you'll find out this dude was a time bomb.

We have friends in In Newtown and the devastation is beyond comprehension.

Thoughts and prayers to all of those that have been affected by this tragedy. In my job I hope to never ever have to hear something like this over the radio and respond to it. I know I would never be the same if I ever saw this many children dead...such a sad story

Horrible  I heard the news as I was getting home from dropping off my 1st grader at school. Having lived for years in Danbury I'm heartbroken.

I grew-up in New Haven and have friends with small kids in small towns. Really have been a bit numb until today sitting here reading a long article about this horrific insanity carried-out by some sub-human piece of s**t.

Not looking for someone to blame, but you can't help but wonder what happened in this creature's upbringing that led to this. Or, IF it was really dealing with mental illness how could the severity go unnoticed by the parents?

Like somebody else said, it'll likely be yet another case where some "parent" just ignored the signs growing-up...or, God forbid, caused the development of this thing.

Sad today.

Based on the funding being cut from the mental health areas I have a feeling this is just a disgusting result of what we will see more of. The other week a man with metal issues burned a church to the ground near my home (luckily no one was around when it happened). He was getting treatment up until this year when all the programs were cut. We all want to blame someone for this, I do as well. It is sad but some people are so potentially dangerous they need to be locked away BEFORE they commit a crime like this. The amount of F*up you would have to be to even think of doing something like this would/could not go unnoticed.

Very true Westwind. Having grown-up with a father who was a psychologist/scientist/researcher (Yale, hence the New Haven thing) and a mother social worker...coupled with an aunt and uncle who both suffer from severe schizophrenia, I have plenty of 1st-hand experience seeing what it takes to help them (now my role). For decades, they were both living a fraction away from being literally on the street and were the prototypical "fall through the cracks" individuals who required meds just to NOT see things and be quite unstable...not "too" dangerous but scary to the initiated. Kids who are living in their own violence-fueled world (video games, TV, attitudes, etc) mixed with psychosis certainly can (and does) yield some scary individuals. Most are not ever going to go this far...but I suppose had my Aunt had access to the right hardware, she would've been fully capable of severe random acts of violence beyond her current outbursts with a butter knife or a chair, etc (though to her it does not feel 'random').

Anyway - we must care for our citizens and, as much as it may sound harsh, get rid of/warehouse those who are beyond reasonable help so we protect others. Huge topic, I know...with lots of complexity. BTW - This sociopath needs to just be erased from out collective consciousness and focus only on the innocent lives lost (IMHO)...not even close to the same category as those I have dealt with in my life in a number of contexts. Though some certainly feel like they could've gone that way. <sigh>

I am seeing my Aunt this weekend and will give her a huge hug as she TRIES to climb into my 4Runner! She is very excited to try...I am bringing a stepstool for sure!

I guess most can be explained, but not this. It was pure evil. Shooting a room full of 6 and 7 year old children up to seven times each? Unthinkable horror and evil.

My wife has her master in psychology and works (well worked) mainly with children. The state massively cut the funding at the start or 12', her and a lot of others fellow employees of hers were laid-off. Honestly, fine by me, I knew some of the dangerous situation she had the potential to be in. She wants to get a job as a school psychologist, which I thought was safe until yesterday. Now I am glad she is home with our 1.5 yr old and as far as I'm concerned it can stay that way. No where seems safe anymore.

My heart breaks

For those children. And ALL the lives this "individual" crushed.
But second to that is the utterly disgusting media circus it has already become. And now with that clown faking tears going there tomorrow it's gonna be worse. And the whole point of these children being remembered will be forgotten....

FECAL CLOWN!

Please keep personal indifference out of this thread, it is inappropriate and insensitive.

These families have suffered unbearable loss. I pray the media will recognize this, and give these families time and space to grieve.

God bless them all.

I have been extremely upset over this. Having 2 little girls and my wife being an elementary school teacher it hits too close to home.

I simply can't imagine what those families are going through. I pray to God they can somehow get through this tragedy and continue with their lives.

completely agree

Completely agree here. This tragedy transcends any political allegiances, beliefs and like or dislike of political figures. This is a HUMAN tragedy at its core. I have nephews in elementary school! This could have been any of our families, any of our schools!
