Thoughts on a supercharger at 132K?

I've got a 2001 T4R SR5 with 132K miles on it. She doesn't need any major repairs. I want to moderately to significantly improve the performance and am seriously considering having a professional outfit do a full supercharger kit. What are your thoughts on doing such work on a 3rd gen with 132K miles? What other performance mods should I consider? Is there a suitable turbo? Thanks for any and all opinions!

Sure why not? These motors are just getting broken in at 100k. The TRD supercharger doesn't really add enough boost to stress the engine. Just make sure your AF ratio is safe.

The supercharger I installed in my Tacoma was on another Tacoma for 250K. I rebuilt it and put it on my Tacoma that has 142K.

Also my 4Runner has 86K and that's supercharged as well.

As long as you don't run too lean you'll be fine.

I S/C'd mine at 185k. No problems for the last 30k its been on there. As long as your engine is running fine, i see no reason not to S/C it.

note - I haven't done the S/C upgrade yet, so this is not coming from someone who really knows what they are talking about.

I am planning on and budgeting for it though. This is my DD, so maybe I am being a little paranoid, but this is what I am going to do (my rig has 105,000 miles on it - all but about 3 of them put on by me).

1.) compression test - car runs great, but just want to make sure it is as good as it seems before I put extra stress on it.
2.) New radiator + trans cooler (done)
3.) Fuel mods (not 100% sure I will do this, since I live at 4500 feet, but I am hoping I can buy a used S/C that comes with a seventh injector or something).
4.) Trans valve body upgrade - I won't do the S/C without having this done first.

By all means - those who have already done this, feel free to poke holes in this plan - maybe you'll save both me and the OP some $$.

Tell me more about the trans valve body upgrade...

My 2000 was S/C'd around 100k. Currently at around 232k. No issues.
Has URD pulley and 7th injector plus tuning.
Has A/F gauge so I can keep tabs on what's going on.

w/ the 5 speed manual it's a blast to drive :high5:

I have had my trd S/C since my 4runner had 5k miles dealer installed for the 100k warranty.

I now have 140k and have had no problems. I also have the URD 7th injector, walbro fuel pump, and 2.2 pulley. I would say proper fuel mods, regular maintance scheduel, and your set for a realable daily driver and trail rig.

Most people forget that the nose cone has oil and a coupler, if you do the nose cone every 15k your set, at least that's when I do mines.
