Not really an issue of "having the balls" to do something like this, but more of that fact that most people wouldn't do something to their vehicle that is so badly finished and IMO dangerous to other drivers.

You're looking at this wrong. Is your bumper crudely bolted onto the fenders instead of the frame?
I was a full size Bronco nut for a while (my Bronco was sweeeeeet), and a lot of people did the same thing. Even with the latch on the tailgate it isn't enough. If you don't reinforce the sheet metal in the quarter panel AND weld it in the bolts are going to wallow out the holes and A: Get loose and destroy sheet metal B: Cause major rust issues C: Fall off and bounce around stuck to the tailgate latch, if you're lucky.
I understand trying to save money, that's one of my mantras but if I were forced or decided on having my spare mounted to the back of the vehicle somewhere I'd go with a rear bumper and a secure tire mount, a roof rack mount, or put the tire in the back of the truck if needed.

Thanks for the entertaining read, I cant believe I've never read this thread before. I guess I've never searched on how to bolt a tire carrier onto sheet metal. LOL

Oh, I could never let this thread go to waste. This place was pretty different back in 2012. This guy pretty much got chased away. His posts were comedy gold though. I find the people defending this guy just as bad. Imagine being behind this dude on the turnpike extension with those ridiculous expansion joints? Nothing quite like a bald 35 mudder hitting you in the face at 70.
