Threadlocker with Spacers: Yes or No

Just bought a set of used Spidertrax and want to install them this weekend. I've got two question on the use of threadlocker.

1) Did you use threadlocker?

2) If you used threadlocker, did you use red or blue?

I've watched some videos and read some diy's and it seems not everyone is using threadlocker. I have a torque wrench and plan on torquing everything to spec (85 ft-lbs), then retorquing in a few hundred miles.

I ran spacers for about 5 months before I got new wheels. I used red threadlocker and never had to retorque them. My hubs had a little rust so they didnt sit flush initially before I sanded them. Just make sure its on there good and you shouldn't have any issues.
 
Don't have spidertrax but do use loctite. Dab of loctite and properly torque. Double check it a few hundred miles later with the tq wrench set a little lower just to make sure they haven't loosened at all.

Probably what I'll do too. I have red loctite, but don't want to use it unless absolutely necessary.

Did you use red or blue loctite?
 
Spacers are a risk, used spacers are a huge risk I would never take. If abused, they will fail. Risk is you don't know how they were treated or mistreated before you bought them. Key is red Loctite and proper torque as specified by SpiderTrax and you'll likely never have an issue.

Spidertrax Installation Instructions

“When all else fails, read the instructions“.

A little joke the Master Tech at the Toyota dealership I once worked at would always say when we got some messed up mechanical issue caused directly by human error into the shop.

My set of Spidertrax spacers came with a bottle of red threadlocker.

Have you ever seen a tire roll by going 70 mph on a highway? It’s terrifing. Imagine one coming at you going 70 from the oncoming lane.

It’s cheap insurance. It may not be necessary, but the instructions say to do it.

Spidertrax sends red loctite with their spacers when you buy them new. Use red loctite..

Used spacers....the only way I would run used spacers is if I installed all new lugs in them or I personally knew the person who sold them was as anal as I am about torquing them to spec and not a penny more.
 
Let me think....YES . but. Spacers scare me adding a weak link to the part that holds the whole thing off the ground.

Fair enough. Wanted a discussion. Here because I've seen it both ways.

I'll plan on going with red loctite

Yep, I used the included red loctite when I installed my Spidertrax. Also, it isn't hard at all to take them off with that red loctite on their either. Torque, and then check them after a hundred miles or so...and don't forget to have someone/something stand on the front brakes when you're torquing those.

interesting that spidertrax says to use threadlocker. im pretty sure either marlin, or all pro(maybe both?) says do NOT use it. because you are supposed to REtorque them a couple times after installation, as they do settle in a bit. you cannot retorque if you used TL.

I did end up using it on one set, and not on the other. neither have given me any issues. one set has 42's, the other 37's. neither is a daily driver.

also, absolutely use the ET lugs.
