ticketed in middle of BFE!

So there I was wandering around the desert looking for a particular off-road trail that leads to some ghostowns. I was in a tiny town of Searchlight, NV. The highway runs right through town and it goes from 55mph down to 25mph immediately. I got tagged doing 30 in a 25, from a SUV Highway Patrol coming the opposite way over a hill. He flipped a u-turn and I got a )#(#@ damn ticket!

Nothing like ruining a fun day of offroading.

I did find one of the ghost-towns though called Vanderbilt. Not much left, but sure was fun getting there. However, given the fact I was in a stock runner, by myself, no food or my survival gear, and it was getting dark, I didn't push my luck. Oh and I didn't bother to tell anyone where I was at this weekend. Whoops. Eventually the trails starting getting gnarly and at that point I was at least 8 miles from the main road heading through a mountain pass. I thought at one point I was broke something after rolling over a rocky washout and scraping a Joshua Tree. So I decided to head out. I ended up reversing for almost a mile before finding a turn-around point.

But the adventure quickly gave me an idea of what new things I want the most.

1. Better tires.
2. Protection for the bottom.
3. Lots more extra lights because it was getting dark, fast!

Yeah there are many more things, but those 3 things came to mind immediately for where I was at.

30 in a 25 got you a ticket? Wow, I know it's desolate out there and all, but that cop must have been real bored. I don't know the system in NV but I would fight that all the way. At least when I got a ticket this summer it was for 78 in a 40, if you're going to do it, do it right, that's what I say.

good thing he only wrote 70 on the ticket.

It has always been my experience that you are more likley to get stopped in BFE than in larger more busy cities. That is how most of those small towns generate city revenues. Your ticket probably paid for his day's wages.

Me toO! Because when you are the only damn person on the road, it's easy to be noticed. First time ever that I thought a radar detector would have helped me avoid this!

The thing is I live in Central California about 6 hours away, so going back to town to fight it would cost me more money than paying.

Get this. His first question after asking to see my license was 'what do you do for a living?'. WTF does that have to do with anything? I had proof of insurance, registration and my license and they were all under my name. I told him exactly what I was doing (looking for an offroad trail).

Then, get this. About 20 minutes later, I'm heading down this dead-end road called Ivanpah Road. Really truly in the middle of BFE also. And I'm going slow. I figured with my luck, their would be a Sherrif or something sitting at the beginning of the offroad trail. Sure enough, there was a lone Sherrif, sitting in his SUV listening to college football game, looking bored as @#)!. I pulled up next to him to ask him about the local ghost-towns and he didn't have a clue. Lucky I wasn't speeding down the road. This was only about 20 miles from where I got pulled over.

Sheriff was sitting at: 35d 20' 17.70" N and 115d 18' 49.45" W

Follow trail that winds East into the moutains. Some really fun offroading out there.

That ticket was based solely on revenue and it's the economy forcing this.
