Tie Downs & Cargo Liner

For those that have a cargo liner, how did you handle your cargo liner covering the OEM tie downs (D-Rings)?

My Husky liner in the cargo area covers all four floor mounted D-rings and I'm contemplating how best to gain access.

used a box cutter razor blade to cut thru my husky liner in the shape of the d-rings.. :thumb:

Similar to this. Used a razor blade to cut a small slit the size of the tie down points (did not cut out entire rectangle). Mine are weather tech mats.

1) lift d-ring/tie down under mat to get a mark of where to cut.
2) cut slit size of d-ring. Always cut slit the smallest you think necessary. You can always enlarge the slit...can’t make it smaller. Kind of like a haircut, you can always take more off the top, but can’t put the hair back on.
3)Test to see if it works the way you want, and then enlarge if necessary.


When not in use the slit is barely noticeable and has not affected the overall protection of the mat. When using just push the d-ring through the slit in the mat. The area near the d-ring if the slit is tight to the d-ring is actually slightly raised when pushed through so most of not all water/dirt does not get through the hole.

Here's what I did

Generally I have enough cargo in the back I don't need tie downs in the center the way others have done. If I'm using the space above the wheel wells, it's only because the bed is full already and it lays there just fine. Either that or soft goods wedged in don't rattle.

The OE ones just weren't in the proper place so added welded stainless D ring extensions on a stainless floor mount and just a slit in the rubber big enough to pass it through. Looks nice clean and can remove rubber mat in seconds.

Those are two separate flat bungee cords each about 5 feet long. The center cross over is held in place by my big blue water jug handle. Not super tight but enough to keep things in place.

Ahhh! I see it now. I thought it was some new fangled tie down where four bungees come out of a center piece. It looks like the flat bungees are getting the job done for you though!

They work well enough on easy trails. I also have a cargo net for smaller items. If I were to do any hardcore bronco busting trails I'd have to get ratchet straps.

I know this is old but could you elaborate on how you put the tie downs for the fridge? maybe some more pics? thanks in advance

We used what is essentially a seatbelt mount with that welded D ring WLL 600#. You can see them here: C115/C119 Chassis Bolt Extension Strap Hardware Kit – Raingler. A set of 3/8-16x3/4" nuts, bolts and washers and some coating in the holes.

Could also use these for an even easier install. WLL 300#. C100 Stainless D-Ring Strap Set for cargo nets or anchors – Raingler
