Tie rod bolt spins I’ve tried everything I know or can find.

Help please!

I just installed new cv axles and dobinson shocks to the front of vehicle. I’m trying to put everything back together when both tie rod bolts just keep spinning. I’ve tried to put pressure with a bottle jack then use the impact wrench still spins. Tired to use a bunjie cord to pull on the tie rod to give it pressure still spins.

The tie rod is all original parts. Maybe I need a new castle but?

Anyone know a trick that could help?

I believe you can put a hex wrench into the end of the bolt to keep it from spinning.

This is a common problem. First, make sure the castle nut will thread onto the shaft without any binding. Once that is good, clean all grease/oil from both the tapered shaft and hole. Then insert the tapered shaft, and tap it from the bottom to seat it in the hole. Then thread the nut on, and as long as you don't jar the shaft loose, it should tighten up.

TechWrench beat me to it. Spray the ends and the tapered hole down with some brake cleaner and let it dry. Put the tie-rod in place and give it a smack on the back with a deadblow or similar to "seat" it. Nut should tighten up no sweat. No need for an impact and such.

Worse comes to worse....you might need to kind of de-glaze the rod end with a bit of sandpaper. Don't go nuts but perhaps just roughen up the surface a bit to let it "bite" in the taper.
