2008 SR5 4Runner. So far aside from the OEM's, I had Firestone Destination AT, Cooper Discoverer AT3, and Kelly Safari ATR. I must say that I only got 25K out of these before replacement. Could have pushed another thousand or two, but not with winter coming. All of these were not the best on snow covered roads. Looking at the new General Grabber APT and also the Bridgestone Revo 2. Any comments on these? Do not do any real off roading. Mostly city highway driving in northeast US. Thx.

Between my current 4th Gen and my previous 3rd Gen, I'm on my fourth set of Bridgestone Revo 2's. I obviously think they're a great tire; they look good, and they're super quiet on the road. I don't really go off-road much, but I've driven in plenty of snow with them and they've performed admirably. Granted, they're much better at getting you going than they are at stopping and/or turning, but that can pretty much be said of anything short of a studded snow tire if you ask me.
I'll put it this way: the only time I've gotten stuck with them was when I wandered into a 36" snow drift while attempting to break a trail through a buddy's field last winter. Needed to use a backhoe to pull me out, but that's not really the tire's fault...driver error in that case.
I usually get about 30k-35k miles on a set and I typically rotate every 5k-8k miles. I also don't try to set any records by running them as long as possible because the quality of the ride diminishes as the mileage increases, and $900-$1,000 every two years is worth it for me to have nice tires.
I had two sets on Revos on my 3rd gen. Always got loud and started losing grip around 25-30K. So I stopped using those.
When I got a 4th I needed new tires right away and gave Michelins LTX/Ms2 a try. They are smooth on the road and I never had balance issues. I decided to replace them with LTX defender (LTX ms2 are discontinued) when I needed a new set. I get about 60K on a set.
I find good snow traction due to sipping. Yes they don't look as tough as KO2, but they have done fine for the offroad and snow I have taken them through

What surprised me most about the Firestone Destination AT, Cooper Discoverer AT3, and Kelly Safari ATR is the fact that they wore quickly and none of them performed well at all in the snow. They all ride nice and are not too noisy, but I did not feel secure with them in light snow. From a standstill, all of them would initially spin in a bit rather than bite on light snow or just plain wet roads. Like I said, I do not bring the vehicle off road. Not looking for an actual snow tire. I do alot of city and some highway driving. Just looking for something quiet, that will last a bit longer and with a little more traction when I need it.

Just curious is your 4runner 4x4?
I've had the Firestone Destinations for 40,000 miles and they have been great up until this past winter. I live in a lake belt and we get a ton of snow. The 4runner has been unstoppable. I do use the 4x4 high mode on snow covered roads. Never really needed 4 low in snow. They were also a fairly quiet tire.
I have been putting Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10's (ridiculously long name) on every truck I have owned since 2007... Never had a flat, they work great on the road and in the snow, I dont have tons of experience with them off road but they handle the sand dunes in the cape very well. I Highly recommend them.

I had the General Grabbers on two vehicles and loved them, great tire. Kelly is owned by Goodyear, might as well get the Wrangler Duratrac the prices they ask.
Personally I would get the Wildpeak AT's for an all around tire, haven't heard anything bad about them and the price is right.

That's all I've run on my 2004 4WD V8 since I got it. Excellent tires. I use them mostly on road, but they are VERY capable off road too. And in the snow and on ice they hold their own very well, too. As others have mentioned they are rated for snow. I've also had very good luck with them in terms of longevity--last set ran about 60,000 miles, only replaced them because of uneven wear due to suspension issues.

I want to chime in on the never had a flat thing.
I've never had a flat either but I've had them punctured by screws and nails several times and they never left me stranded, just lost air slow enough that I could take care of it on my own time (and I mean weeks and months). A few months ago I found a big screw in one of my tires, which must have been there for a LONG time because it was ground down and that tire never lost any air so I had no clue.
I think these tires are pretty damn tough. I would definitely buy them again but next time I'll get 275 tires since they'll fit fine with my setup.

Hi there, yes my 4Runner is the 4x4. I do put it in 4wd when snow covers the road. I can honestly say that I was not very happy with the wear or performance in wet conditions with any of those three tires I mentioned. I will say that all of them rode nicely and were pretty quiet, but when winter came I was always tentative. I'm not saying the vehicle was all over the road, it just did not grab well and it got hairy making turns at times.
I ran copper lt m+s last year and this year have them back on. I live in an area where it snows a lot but ices even more often. These tires performed amazing. Quiet and 10ply. They never made me nervous driving. While they are not as good as blizzaks they are about 90% there. With the hard compound i can run them in temps above 50 degrees without worry.

Im getting close to needing new tires soon. Currently leaning towards Cooper At3's or Goodyear Wrangler duratracs. Im looking for a decent all terrain that has good road manners and costs less than $200 per tire. One thing I like about the AT3's is they are available in E-load. Not sure if I want E-load or not, I do a little towing with my 4runner so it would be nice to have the piece of mind. I also cant decide on 265/70R17 or 265/65R17. I want a bigger tire but I would prefer my Odometer be more accurate.
I had these tires on my 4Runner, and they were ok, but I did not like the wear pattern and also the tires seemed to be hard to balance? I was always at the garage getting these tires balanced in between rotations.
