It is a non-interference engine. I assume you are talking about the 3.4 V6. Gates timing belt has a chart that shows which engine is interference or non-interference. For years they made the 3.4 non-interference then changed last year to interference. A mechanic told me sometimes a 4 vavle non-interference engine can sometimes have a problem. Bottom line most of the members consider it non-interference.

Of course, 140,00 miles is pretty good for one belt. I would consider changing it before...

How detailed is the timing belt to be changed? Im pretty mechanicly inclined, but i have never worked on the 3.4 motor. Im at 84K miles and it will be needed probably by next spring.

if you figure that out let me know too, i'm at 83k and could probably use one soon, even if it is non-interference- better safe than sorry.

LMAO!!! Thanks for the link peter, the guy who did that write up and owns that site is a friend of mine from TTORA Nor Cal. I'll just go to his house and have him do it with me, thanks again.
Wow, that was pretty lucky. The one thing that scares me is the 217 ft./lbs. of torque needed to tighten the bolt. Thats a lot of torque.

Yeah that is some weight to put on it.

noobie question, i know, but does the output of the engine have anything to do with the timing belt's torque? or is that just coincidince?
