Timing Belt & Water pump change question

Hello All, I recently posted a question on amount of KM/Mileage people have on their 4runners, the result is I am keeping my truck going at 402,000 KM's. I was at my mechanics today and there are a few minor repairs required. They are getting done.

Another question I had is, I did my timing belt and water pump at 179,000KM's. I have heard that you do it once and forget about it. What are you folks thoughts...should I do it again? Would most of you do the change or leave it.

One and forget it? That works if you don't care. You replaced the belt once already because belts go bad and wear out. If it is due for it, you should replace it.

Timing chains are usually that thing people ignore and can last the life of the vehicle.

wow thats awesome your able to make it so long on the belts. I thought it should be replaced every 120,000km. I'd say your over due but you could always drive it till it breaks.

For '99+ Toyota spec'd 90k. After reviewing the monster TB longevity thread on YT, I decided that 120k is a reasonable number. When I did the swap at 120k, everything was in excellent shape and probably could have gone 150k. But I think 120k is a good number. It is important to get in there to look at seals and water pump which may be leaking. Certainly, the OP is due.

my water pump started showing signs on going out at 124,500 miles. It just began to leak, mostly out the weep hole or the bearing. I just bought he parts at toyota and then had a buddy at toyota do it for me for pretty cheap.
