Timing Question for those that know

I have a 1998 3.4L 4 Runner 169,000 with poor power. I don't know the service record of this vehicle. I have fire on all cylinders. Unplugging #1-#5 injectors one at a time has very little affect on performance at idle.
At idle it sounds like it is missing. When increasing throttle, the passenger side develops a low drone sound at the exhaust manifold or it could be in air box intake. I did not check that well enough to say for sure. The drivers side develops a metal on metal sound in the area of the intake. No CEL just low power while driving and rough idle.
I suspect it has jumped timing one tooth at the crank.

Well if you remove the plugs and there is zero change than you have something wrong there. If you pull those plugs and you see them sparking just as good as the others I would look into fuel injector issues. But if you have a metal on metal (clack, clack, clack) you could be looking at a bad rod bearing which would mean a full engine overhaul. A video with sound at idle and revving would also help.

Yeah, I've watched a few of those (listen to my noise) videos. I cannot tell squat from these so I would not expect that of anyone else. For this reason is why I am describing the symptoms of this vehicle issue.
Adding to my description of symptoms; there is no backfire, however there is some valve chatter. Nothing to excessive.
The vehicle is not in my possession as of now but when I can I will do a compression check.

If it's missing there should be a CEL. I doubt that it jumped time. I guess it's possible but..?

You can check it by putting the crank pulley on the zero timing mark and then pull the cam pulley cover back and check that the marks are at 12 o'clock. If they aren't, rotate the crank one full revolution and check the cam pulley's again.
