Tire poll

"New" 4runner came with really nice brand new 265/70/17 Michelin LTX MS2 all season tires, but I think I will take them to put on my 2wd F150.

This 4runner would look much better with some all terrain or off road tires. (Will probably keep the same size unless I could go bigger without rubbing). For off roading it will mainly be driven on challenging beach sand- checking ratings like Tire Rack owner surveys am guessing deep show traction is closest to deep soft sand? Also may see occasional mild to moderate trails and mud but nothing too deep or technical. The vehicle is also a daily driver so road noise, handling and comfort are concerns.

I read some reviews on here but Tire Rack had no surveys for the Nittos or Toyos...

For the beach stick to a A/T.

I tried M/T's on the beach and they dug more than floating. Several of the lifeguard trucks down here use the Michelin you have right now.

Thanks! Good advice. Maybe I will try the all seasons first because they really are a great tire on the road. Looking at south end of Carolina Beach, and the NC outer banks.

By all means, if your priority is sand and you otherwise like your tires, keep them.

That's why I love this forum. Advice you'd never expect. Will keep them on and see how they do on the sand.

My experience with deep sand is the all season type tires seem to do better than the more aggressive tread designs. I had also had a set of terra grapplers that did well in sand but they were also on a MUCH heavier vehicle so that may be why. I can't vouch for my Cooper ATP's yet but if I have time to hit the sand pit by my house tomorrow I will let you know.

Given the choice, I'd take the tires you have on your truck right now over any tire on the market if the most aggressive thing you'll see is a sandy beach. On the road they're fantastic in all weather conditions. I put them on mine almost a year ago. Excellent tires.

I have three 4runners.One has Nitto's and the other two have Toyo's. I like the Toyo's better myself, but that's just me.

Drove around on Mustang Island State Beach near Padre Island for several miles. The Michelin LTX MS2's had no problems at all even in the loose soft sand and out in the water (couldn't resist). Fun time!!! Pic to the left shows us there!!! arty:
