Tire question....again

I know from searching that this topic has been discussed before but I have never seen and answer on this specific portion...

I'm clear that most people say that 285/75/16's on a non-lifted 4runner may be a little too high and that they rub.....is this rubbing at maximum turn, max flex on the suspension or rubbing constantly during everyday driving?

I have a 97 4runner that my wife and I have had for the last 14 years. Currently it has 267,000 miles on it with only minimal maintenance. I'm not going to mud it or rock climb with it, just trying to get a better look to it and still be able to use it for a daily driver..

Your thought are appreciated.

Thanks

On a 97 you could probably fit the 285's but not without a fair amount of trimming and work with a hammer. I would run 265/75's, which will give you a good balance of flex and tire size. Plus they are quite a bit cheaper than 285's and you have a lot more choices for C rated tires. I personally would not run D or E rated tires on a Runner just because the engines are not super powerful and the heavier tires can really suck down the fuel mileage.

Definitely recommend 265s in 70 or 75. 285s will reduce your power and MPGs and you will be unhappy with them unless you regear your axles which is very expensive.
