Tire time, 295 flavor???

Hey guys sooo its time to start my tire shopping and I've been doing some research lately for tires in the 295/75r16 size. I really want to run some 315's but i honestly dont have the money to re-gear. Because if i were to regear i might as well rebuild this elocker and retrofit it while im re gearing. So for now that leavea 285 or 295.....

I want the 295 cus it is a true full or even over 33" but there is very slim pickins. Ive came up with about 5 tires, toyo open country, bfg at, general grabbers, and only 2 of them are M/Ts we have the hankook dynapros which measure out to be a 33.6" tire by manufacture specs. And there is the interco ss-m16 which is 33.8. Cheapest i found that was 362 bucks a tire.

Anybody have any good reviews on either of these tires??? Or should i just man up and run the 315s untill i have cash for gears? I was also looking at the nitto terra grapplers buuuuut I would rather go with aM/T

The hankooks are nice but the tread voids aren't very wide. They are more like an aggressive AT/mild mud tire. That said Im looking to get a set when my 285s wear out.

I Toyo Open Country AT2s in the 295 flavor. They measure out to 33.4" and in this size come in the "extreme'' version (deeper and wider tread, aggressive sidewall pattern) They were $915 out the door with lifetime rotate and balance. They ride extremely well on-road compared to my 265 Bighorns. I've gotten a chance to do a little off-roading with them and they've performed at how I feel they should for an A/T. They are a bit stiff compared to my 265s. The biggest thing that steered me away from the Toyo M/Ts was the extreme weight of them. With these tires I dare say my mileage has improved and at the very minimum has stayed the same. I feel power loss is minimal as well but I live in mostly flat country at around 500ft of elevation. I only feel it on inclines. I feel it much more affected braking than power loss. With my wheels and .75" spacers these tires line up perfectly with the limited style fender flares. I personally think this size tire is a perfect size for someone who wheels hard and DDs their rig, but doesn't want to get into re-gearing for 35s.

I would just run 285s. It's not much of a difference. And even "33"s aren't true 33s. And you have more options and cheaper prices.

Thats why i want the 295 because its a true 33+inches of tire!!!

Hmm so they have that "extreme version" listed as an option to go with that tire? I havent seen that in the few place i was looking through. That tire does look sweet. What tire source did you use for those?

[MENTION=86901]Forrrrest[/MENTION] The extreme version only comes in select sizes and these sizes for a 16" rim are 305/70/16 and 295/75/16. So if you order either of those tire sizes you will get the extreme version. The 305 flavor is something like 10lbs heavier per tire than the 295s. I just got a few local tire shops to price them and went with the best price. Oh did I mention they also come with a 50k mile tread warranty?
