Debt is bad, that's my rule. Like any rule, there's times it needs to be broken. The key to managing to be debt free is recalibrating your definition of "need".
It's my belief that debt is evil, and our cultural willingness to go into debt in order to have "things" is going to be one of the causes of the eventual fall of western civilization. A lot of people think that's a pretty loopy viewpoint, but a lot of people have been conditioned to ground their self esteem in the quality and quantity of their "things", and that it's normal to take on debt in order to increase those things. I think they're the loopy ones.
