IMHO 2025 4Runner is a POS

Just picked up a low mileage 24 TRD Sport. Long story short selling dealer only had 1 smart key. Right I know!!

Anyway took it to a local dealer for them to match a new oem one to the veh. They were busy and said they may not get to it until tomorrow but we'll give you a rental no charge. COOL. Guy at the rental counter gave me about every Toyota option they had and had 1 4runner left. I'll take that.

I'll make this brief. I found nothing to like about it A lot of cheap feeling plastic dash area. Reminded me of a POS Nissan. Swing and big miss!

Over priced and low quality is what Im reading. If the Land Cruiser is still around that might be something I might move to. I HATE pick-ups. Ive owned several and I worked in Truck at Ford. I know a thing or two. We'll be staying with SUVs in the future but Im not interested in a foo-foo soccer mom vehicle. It has to be able to do ranch work and pull a trailer.

I remember everyone saying the same things about the 5th gen 4Runner in late 2009. Compare how it feels to slam a door on a 2nd gen 4Runner with your 5th gen. Or just drive a 4th gen V8 and feel the dash. You might feel like you got scammed. It's all relative.

I sat in one. I'm 6'3" wide shoulders long legs. They did everything possible to make it hurt. Maybe the center console looks cool but my knee will disagree on its function.

Whah whah whah…every 4th gen owner was saying the same thing about the new 5th gens when they came out…too boxy…too much plastics….whah whah…I’ve owned my 2005 4R since new and currently getting the engine rebuilt do due to blown head gasket at 208,850 miles. 20.5 years without any issues other than maintenance.

The new 6th gens are amazing. I’ve sat in one at the dealership. It’s the same plastic that is in the 4th gen and 5th gen. The interior is by far better.

The only thing I’m really salty about is the PRICE! I bought my mid level trim 4WD Sport Edition for $33,500 Total! A mid level trim is about DOUBLE that in today’s economy! Ugh!

But I’m planning to buy a new 4R in about 3 years as a 50th birthday present or maybe just hold off until 2030 and make it 25 years since my last 4R purchase.

Totally agree! in addition, I remember many people were saying similar things in 2003 when 3rd gen was replaced with 4th gen... lol.

Went to the dentist yest & what caught my eye was a 5th in Underground paint; but in fact it was a 6th Sport. I have 2 5ths - One with 22k mi & 1 with only 800mi (a Pro). I won't let them go now. The plastic around the 6th was astonishing. FAIL

LOL. 5th gens are full of plastic too. So are 4th gens. You can get some thin chrome bumpers on a 3rd gen if plastic is that awful. I understand opinions but this makes no sense.

I've owned Toyotas going back to the 80's. And worked on them as a Master Tech at a Toyota dealer, and later independent shops.

I was excited about the 6th gen, but having driven several trim levels, and looked them over closely, I am also disappointed in them.

If I went with a 6th gen TRD ORP like my TRD ORP 5th gen, I would get:

Hard plastics where there are soft-touch materials in my 5th gen.

Plastic skidplates instead of the steel skidplates I have.

Generic black fender flares which are so flimsy, they don't fit close to the body, unlike my tightly fitted, painted flares.

Despite being a larger vehicle, the interior is smaller. I am cramped in the drivers seat, unlike my 5th gen.

The rear seat is also more cramped.

The tumble forward rear seats means the cargo space is not nearly as useful as previous generations.

There have been transmission issues, which is concerning as the A750 was reliable, even behind a 2UZ-FE in the Tundra which had higher payload and towing ratings.

A neighbor had a TRD ORP 5th gen, and bought a TRD ORP 6th gen. He is driving exactly the same route as he did in his 5th gen, and is getting essentially the same MPG. That's an annoyance as the gas tank is also smaller on the 6th gen, which means his tank range is more limited.

Maybe the fit and finish and materials quality will improve in successive model years, but that remains to be seen.

Anyway, if some people are disappointed in the 6th gen, they are not the only one.

Oh, I'm definitely not doubting the disappointment of the 6th gen. You actually gave legit reasons. I'd still take a 5th gen over a 6th gen for the reasons you gave.

I love my '18 SR5. It's paid for. It's solid, quiet (even w/KO2s) and still has a quality feel. I haven't babied it, I use it on my ranch. And I paid far less than a new SR5 2WD model.

4 banger turbo on a 5k LB truck. It'll be a quick death for that engine.
