Tires-

Hi folks!
I have a 2004 t4r sport Ed v8 (blk)
I just ordered my toyotec lift kit and it is time 4 tires(yay!!!)
Most of my driving is in town (a mountainous area)but I do have a summer trip ahead of me...the size I wanna go with is 275/70/17 so here is my options:

BF A/T

GY mtr's

Cooper stt

Things that I care about is : road manners,long life,noise,snow,off road(I don't really care so much about mud) and price...

(I really like the duratrac but they only come in 285 (that I'm really not intreated in them due to loss of power gearing full and spare tire fit) and 265 that I'm afraid ill Regrat it that I went too small...

I think from your list of tires there the BFG AT would be best (except for light snow). I was going through the same thing and I thought going 265s was a small compromise to getting the Duratracs. Would I like a bigger size? Sure. Do I want a bigger size? No. Do I ever look at my tires and think "Damn they look small!" No.

Here was the mental list of positives that I thought of when deciding on tires:
-No rub at full flex
-I can keep rear mudflaps
-Height difference between 265-275 is only a half inch
-Less wear and tear on suspension components (such as wheel bearings)
-Most accurate speedometer and odometer from stock
-Less hit to MPG
-Minimal trimming/adjustments
-Minimal loss of torque
-I honestly don't think a person with 275s and the same lift will be able to do something that my truck can't with the 265s

I know we talked about this before, but this was my thought process when deciding. What would you regret about going 265? Performance or solely looks? Good to see you ordered the lift!

also as far as I know u can keep the mudflaps with no issues

The first Pine Barrens trip in November this guy had 275/65/18 Duratracs and had to remove rear mudflaps, not sure about other kinds of tires but that's what I remember.

You're right, there is a difference and they are obviously a little bigger. Do you plan on getting wheel spacers or rims or anything?

Not sure yet but if ill do its gonna be a wheel spacer only

I've had good luck with BFGs in the past and the current Hankooks do pretty good and are holding up better than I expected. You may also want to check out the Toyo open country AT2. Seems like a pretty good tire.

If you're concerned about noise and driving on snow/ice, I would think that you could eliminate the MTRs and the STTs. A friend of mine just got the Cooper Discoverer AT3. It's an awesome tire, will be much better on snow/ice, and comes in a 275.

If you're looking for something more aggressive (based on your MTR and STT options) and seeing that you have a V8, just go with the 285 DuraTracs and get a CBI hitch-mount tire carrier. I drove another friend's V6 with 285 DuraTracs and couldn't believe how quiet they are... they're quieter than my Silent Armors! We're at 6500' elevation (about 20% less hp than sea level) and there is hardly any noticeable impact on performance with the stock V6 so a V8 at your elevation must be ridiculous to drive!! If you're set on not going up to 285s, the 265/70-17 DuraTracs look pretty big and everyone that I know that gets them, absolutely loves them.

I can offer you this about the BFG's.
I just replaced a set of them that were 265/70/17. I put about 6000 miles on them and decided they had to go. They look awesome and they are probably the best AT tire you can buy, but the noise and the mpg loss was bothering me. I replaced them with the BFG Rugged Terrains of the same size. These still have a nice off road look to them but they are quiet and I picked up about 2 miles per gallon. I've been on them for about a week and I am very happy with them so far.

I'm just more confused now... Lol as far as I know hey don't make the toyo in 275 and I'm pretty nervous to go with the 285 its a big change...

I really want them to look aggressive so the at3 and the rugged are kind of out of the pic (I had s/o who wanted to sale me his 1000 miles old at3 for $700 and didnt take it...)

I've seen that size with a Daystar 2.5/1.5 (Acidmeld's 4Runner) and it looked great! NJshadow93 has that size, too and may have convinced me that the 265/70 is perfect... he truck looks awesome! Which Toytec lift did you order?

I honestly don't see a lot of black sports. Took me quite a bit of looking and an 11 hour drive to find mine. It looks a little different now, lift, tires, dark FJ wheels.

BFG AT is better at rock crawling and may last longer. Duratrac is better in snow, mud, and on pavement (especially wet pavement). BFG is 11lb heavier per tire, so thats an extra 44lb altogether (assuming the C rated Duratrac is the one you're considering). The Duratracs also come with deeper tread at 18/32" compared to BFG 16/32.

Thanks, I only have about 5.5k miles on them. I'd like to 50k out of them. I've seen a couple people go over 60k but I would be surprised if that happens.
