I'm thinking about starting to buy totalled out 4runners and part them out. What generation should I start with, I was looking and it seems third Gen owners are in need of quite a bit and plus if I buy running one first Gen owners could get a full 3.4 swap. Need some input because i will most likely be giving you guys first dibs and then resorting too flaikslist.

5th gen would cost too much and they are too new, i havent found any at auctions yet. There are alot of 2nd and 3rd gens.

I went through hell trying to sell things to people on here when I began parting out my 2000. My inbox was full every single day, which lead to me ignoring lots of people... I was much too overwhelmed. A lot of people got pissed off, it really taught me how much work it is. I helped a lot of people, though. My choice in a rusty donor truck also proved to be a pain the ass, I still haven't even touched the rear suspension... I'm not excited to.

If you're fine with giving up all of your free time, by all means, I would definitely be interested in buying some more OEM parts for my 3rd gen.

Thanks children of bodom! I appreciate the input! Right now I have alot of spare time, I will probably do one just to see how it is. I'm also going to start buying and selling cars, me and my dad thought we'd give it a try.

Its all a lot harder than it seems, the most profitable way to buy and sell cars is to get um off auction, and that is hard for most people. I have looked into it, and just noticed from scouring Craigslist for a few weeks that the profit margin on the cars i can afford to buy and resell is too low of me to even waste my time.

Yeah, i don't think it will be easy at first but we will see. My dads friends with a few people that own towing yards that auction off upwards of 100 vehicles every 60 days or so. Like I said its a trial period. Even if we make very little on the first few we are getting our name out there. Its a secondary business for my dad.

One thing to remember, 4R90, is to add your TIME working on the vehicles, as well as the time your money is tied up in a for-sale vehicle. I had a buddy of mine, a mechanic, that would pick up messed up cars from people, fix them, and sell them--the problem was he was only looking at the money difference on the prices as his profits. A vehicle that takes a lot of time to get ready to sell, plus then sits for a month or more waiting to sell (tying up your funds), and only makes you, say, a grand, is hardly worth it when you put everything in the equation. Make sure you can make a solid profit after ALL variables are included (remember the old adage "time is money"), or you'll eventually hate it. Just my two cents, anyway.

I have my own rollback and i buy alot of vehicles in all conditions. Some of them i repair, some i sell, and some i tow them to the scrapyard for scrap weight. For example, I just recently picked up a running/driving 1 owner, orig. paint, 1986 k5 4x4 full size blazer for $200.00 and sold it on CL for $700.00, the new owner drove it the hour and a half home with no issues. He even called me when he arrived home and thanked me because it drove so nice on the highway. That's how i bought my 2000 runner, i also work as a tech. at a auto repair facility and a customer brought in his runner for a coolant leak. My co-worker diagnosed a minor rad. leak and w.p. leak, when the customer declined the repairs he stated that he wanted to sell it, he was asking $4000.00, my co-worker told him that i buy fixer uppers and we agreed on $3000.00. After the needed repairs, the tundra swap and my yakima basket i'm a proud t4r owner. Right now I have another customer with a 98 t4r limited with a blown headgasket that he wants me to buy, but we have'nt agreed on a price yet. I've found that it's easier to sell the vehicles whole, then trying to part them out myself.

try 1st gen 4runners , interior parts are very hard to get ,im still looking for a 85 oem stereo with cassette , and i need a brown bezel drivers side electric window switches , those are nowhere to be found
