To BFG MT or not to BFG MT, that is the question

Hi folks,

Penny for your thoughts. I found a scorching deal for a set of 5 brand new BFG MT's in 255/75/17, with recent production dates, yet I am yearning for an excuse to pass on them.

No rock crawling, no super technical off road parks, 90% regular roads/highways, with 10% to/from not too remote camp sites. Maybe 2% will have my 500lbs (combined) Motorcycle + versahaul on the rear hitch-- truck will only have me and light gear for the 2% of the time. (yes, 102% total)

Will be coming from a set of Michelin LTX's in stock size.
Truck is a v8, with both XREAS and RAS, and is NOT the DD.

I don't particularly want the MPG hit (I find the stock range appalling), nor the loud humming from the tires, but but but.. first world problems, big time.

They're great tires, not terribly noisy and only a minor MPG hit. If you're looking for a reason to pass on them, I found them a little squirmy and vague on high speed corners. But that was on an 5500 pound F150, you might not get that on a 4Runner. And for what I paid for them, I could put up with a lot more.

I would only buy these a a take off set that would sit in my garage for muddy weekends. you won't get a lot of mileage out of them.

Not a horrible choice, but not the best choice for a 4runner. They are one of the more quite mt options out there but life span is short.

I just went from a stock sized Michelin LTX to a 33" 10 ply not even MT - Nitto Exo Grappler. The weight and noise difference is significant, not any more than I expected to sacrifice, but for sure something to get used to. Sounds a bit extreme for your driving %'s. If you had a second set of wheels for them and swapped out for fun weekends that's a different story.

I also got a great deal on them.. not a bad tire for the right price.. buy them.. if you don't like them for whatever reason they can easily be resold.

Love these tires, will probably be the only ones going on my truck from now on. Mine are Jeep take offs, like most are, that had 15miles on them. I do mostly pavement pounding and have had NO issues what so ever with them.

Yes mine are too.. these are the factory tires off jeep rubicons..so they have to meet certain specs. I've had them on for about a year now and no issue.. snow ice rain sand mud dirt rocks they have seen it all. Im sure they aren't the best at everything but they are good enough at everything for the price.
Wet handleing.. highway handling and noise vs highway tires about only real negatives. And they wear fairly quickly rotate at least every 5k

I had them too, not a bad tire. But they are terrible in the rain. Since it never rains in California I never really cared for a tire that has good performance in the rain.

I told them and went with a 285 BFG KM2.
