TOO much dust inside when out on trails

The fist time i though it was because of rolling the windows down often, the second time running the a/c i still get tons of dust inside while driving the trails so what gives???

Can bad weatherstripping cause it!
Do our trucks have cabin air filters?
Or is it the dang vent on the rear sucking the rear wheels dust up?

Any tips would be good

Unfortunately there is no cabin air filter for any dust... I have the same problem here in Colorado and I just have to keep my windows up, except my sunroof sometimes. Takes a lot of wiping the interior down!

This. I've never had an issue with dust in the cabin and I've driven on some pretty dusty roads.

If you drive behind a smokey car or truck and have outside air closed off in the cabin, if you still smell the exhaust from the vehicle in front of you then the original foam seals in the vent/blower unit are all used up and need a change.

It could be also the reason why you get lot's of dust inside the cabin.

It could also be from other places, like door seals etc.

On my 94 pickup, I actually made a filter to go over the inlet behind the glove box. It helped a lot out in the desert. It only filters on the recirculation setting but, I'm happy with it.
The filter is a green washable 2 stage filter that I cut down and was originally used for home hvac system.

There is an air vent outlet on the bottom of the read driver quarter panel underneath the bumper. The flapper came off mine and I had what you have.

I'd start by checking that rear vent. It is right behind the driver rear wheel where there is a lot of dust. You should be able to reach up behind the bumper to feel for the flap.

If you are on 'fresh' air, it might not suck in dust, but if you are on recirc, it definitely will. Also, cracking the front windows will suck dust/air back in to the cabin from the back if the flap is missing.

When I was in the diesel scene a popular mod for the Fords was to insert surgical tubing in the weather stripping. The theory behind it was that the surgical tubing is a lot stouter and more resiliant than the weather strip so it gives it some backbone.

I've been toying around with doing this to the 4runner, but it always gets bumped down the project list. Check out this video:

I got a lot of dust from the rotted feeble rubber flap on that rear flow through vent, so I plugged the rear vent on mine. I replaced the door rubber with new OEM. I still get noticeable dust collecting around the rear door seals(both sides), particularly at the bottom.
I'm sure the foam on the fresh/recirc blend door has degenerated also.

2022 4runner too much dust after driving on a dirt road

I'm amazed by the large amount of dust that lined all the interior door panels, side interior rear panels, dash and seats after a simple driver over the Hurley FSR road. I have driven this road over the last 10 years to our cabin, never have seen this with any vehicle we've owned and driven over this gravel/dirt road.

This is the first cabin season I've owned this 4runner, 2 weeks ago went over the FSR, dust all over the interior. On this trip we did not have the air running and the air recirculate was on, therefore should not be drawing air from the outside. This past weekend had the air on but again used the recirculate and once again by the time we got to our cabin all lower interior panels and dash were covered in dust.

Spoke to 2 other neighbours who also have 2022 4 runners and they are experiencing the same issue when driving the FSR. This appears to be a common issue, has anyone received any resolutions. With the amount of dust found on the interior at the end of this 45 min drive is concerning. Clearly we are all breathing this in!!!
