Cammo Dudes are under strict orders to avoid all civilian contact unless there is a real threat. Yes, their Raptors are SUPER nice. Gotta say, perfect vehicle for what they do.

They dont give you an opportunity to drive up to them. They always stay just far enough away. The super close up picture was a mistake on their part I think. They were not expecting us to be on the other side of the hill with the camera ready.

Every two hours the Cammo Dudes would make a run at out campsite and flip a u-turn at the last second and drive away. I assume it was a scare/annoyance tactic. Did'nt really freak us out until they started buzzing us with the blackhawk in the middle of the night. That damn bird ruined our camp with its rotor blast.

Campfire Hill is 1.5 miles from the Front Gate and perfectly legal to camp at (on BLM land). With that said, "they" do NOT want you out there. I cant even begin to tell you how much we were harassed by the security driving up on us at all hours with their spotlights. When that didnt work they brought in the Blackhawk which ruined our camp at 9pm in the freezing cold.

Very cool experience but if your looking for a nice quiet campground forget about it. No wood, No water, and Very High Security.

Fact: You get caught crossing the boundary line (which is not clearly marked) and your put on the ground at gunpoint and held there for one hour till the Lincoln County Sheriff arrives. Then its one night in jail and a $1000 fine. Any and all camera/recording equipment you may have had with you is now property of the US Government.

Personally I dont think its BS at all. I think thats an easy punishment for crossing into a US Air Force Base. While I was a MP if you were caught illegally entering Camp Pendelton things were handled THE EXACT same way.
And yes, there is something going on there. There is a whole lot going on there. Enough to keep us up all night.

Its marked with little orange poles every 10 yards or so in accessible areas however, these poles are only 3 feet tall and not always upright. It would be impossible to mark the whole thing with a big fence. I think they are going for the subtle approach.
There is absolutely ZERO reason to be down that road unless your going to the base. If you wander off and start trekking around those hills then that's on you.
Hawkeye Hill is just to the left of the main road. You can see the main guard shack from the top. Its clearly outside the boundary line but just by a hair. We still didnt mess around with going up there. Trust me, the security is not taken lightly. No reason to push buttons.

Security around all bases is taken very seriously. I am actually surprised that you still have your video and camera gear. They are allowed to confiscate any pictures and or equipment that is known to have taken pictures/ video of the base. We(gov. employees of any kind) are to watch for exactly the type of activity you were doing and notify base security. Once base security is notified the local LEO will be out shortly to "talk" to the individual and confiscate any material that could be used or considered a threat to base security. It does not matter if you are physically on base property at the time or not, you are recording base property and procedures.
