Torn Between Sliders

Yes, I use them. They have to take the abuse AND be DD functional as a wife and kid assist. I've used Shrock on Jeeps in the past. Love the product, hate the wait. I like the idea of bump out sliders, so bud built vs white knuckle? The U bots don't bother me, I just want the best product. I'm leaning towards beefy buds ...push me over the edge or change my mind.

I have Budbuilts regular bumpout with full tread. I love them but I would not consider them steps into the truck. To access the roof yes, but because they are angled up they are a extremely tall step and if nothing else actually make it hard to enter and exit. Its all relative, I don't think its a big deal but I don't have a short wife or kids wanting to use them. Everyone who gets into the truck comments on them asking if I bent my running boards or are they supposed to be like that.

I can see that ...kinda the same with Shrock, but sometimes it's the appearance of a step vs the step itself. Do you have any second thoughts about regular vs beefy?

I had Bud build mine with less angle, they work perfectly fine as a step IMO. Op, I would suggest contacting Bud directly if you decide to go with his product; he is very helpful and prompt in his responses.

Nope, I didn't think the beefy were needed and it was additional cost/weight. Absolutely nothing wrong with them I just had never heard of anyone bending the regular buds and I while I have used them as sliders only on dirt not rocks

Good point ...not building this as a rock monster so much as an expedition fun seeker. Regulars would probably do just fine.

Any interest in the OPOR sliders from metal tech? I think when I purchased mine they were the best price. I chose the bump out and there was not an option for "beefy." They are holding up extremely well and have already paid for themselves in damage prevention. I chose the rattle can approach to save some expense. My only regret...At the time I didn't want to remove or cut my rocker panel/trim so I purchased the ones that fit without modification. Because of this they become the lowest point on the vehicle and get abused/cause hang ups because of it. If I had to do it all over again I would have gotten the trail version and made the modifications, planning to do so in the future.

Sliders are all about the same to me. I think any decent ones will get the job done without issue.

I really like how these are up very high from a clearance stand point but with regards to being a step they are really too high. Great for a slider and rocker protector but maybe not the best replacement for someone looking for a running board type slider. Great to reach the roof rack, but for getting in and out I find I have to hop over them and I'm over 6' tall. The height is almost even with the truck floor board so they really don't provide that lower step point the OP may be looking for. All that said, I really like them so far but have only had them on for a month or so.

I really like the look of your sliders; I almost pulled the trigger on these; however, I'm having a rethink as they don't bolt/mount to the frame but to the rock rail/body. Would love to hear how they do if you ever get in a situation where they're needed.

What did you hate about the BB? For my use I'd never buy the SW sliders and would only consider bumpouts.

I wanted them for #1 steps and #2 sliders. I hated the idea of buying steps and then when I get serious about wheeling having to buy sliders. BudBuilts looked great, I liked the bump outs and the full plating but the angle made them impossible to use for me and my SO and they got my work pants dirty because I was stepping over them.

SW is flat, have the holes in the plating so you don't slide, and just generally work well for what I wanted.

I got my BBs for around $500 used and paid $900 for the SWs, I say it was $400 well spent.

Do these bolt to the frame at all, or just the pinch seam?

I like my Metal Tech TE sliders( not OPOR), they are "beefy" and mount to the frame
