Totaled Gx470- get another?

Hey all,

I was the proud owner of a 2009 GX470 until the wife totaled the vehicle. Amazing that nothing happened to her. A bus ran a red light, t-boned her, and flipped the lexus over. All she came away with were some cuts and bruises.

Anyway, I am keeping an eye out for another 2009 and found one that is close in mileage and age for around 16k plus I’d have to pay for a timing belt change or try to get a discount from asking price. I also noticed a 2011 GX460 with about 140k, F sport wheels, and in great condition. Price is around 19k and comes with th stock wheeels as well.

My long term goal is to hold onto my next vehicle for the next 5-10 years at least, kind of like my previous Gx until the accident.

Has anyone gone to a GX460 from the 470 and regretted it? I like the interior of the 460 but really appareciste the old school look of the 470.

In either case, I am debating if the 3k difference is worth it? Plans for both would be AT tires but no lift in foreseeable future unless it’s to replace wearing stock components.

If you are planning on keeping it mostly stock and not adventuring with it too much. Go for the 460. If you plan on doing major offloading and modifying. Go with the 470.

Personally, I'd do a few mods and upgrades to either for comfort and convenience. You're talking about vehicles approaching a decade old. They are both great in their stock form but will be somewhat dated as far as creature comforts and convenience. That said, you're coming from a 470 and know exactly what to expect. If you plan on keeping it mostly stock, I'd say get another 470 and use that $3k difference for your maintenance and upgrade fund. You'll keep it on the road for 10+ years maintaining it well.

I would go to a GX460 if it were me. There is more aftermarket support for the 460 now than before and the interior is way nicer.
