So I did a bunch of maintenance on the 4R last week since I could do it on the cheap. 2005 Limited. 82k miles. 4wd. V8. Replaced the plugs, diff/transfer case fluids, P.S. fluid, flushed the brake fluid and did a 12qt trans fluid exhange (obviously TB/WP is next).
The boat is a 20' 1990 Gambler bass boat. With trailer and motor, probably in the 3500-4000lb range. Took my truck instead of his Silverado due to it being obviously a lot more comfortable and to put it to the test.
Towed from the central NJ area to Lake Candlewood in Conn near Danbury, about 110 miles or so one way. Tends to get quite hilly on the way up and it showed. The car drank a good amount. The way home was better, but still averaged about 12.5mpg for the trip, both ways with the A/C on. But it did it pretty effortlessly except on the bigger hills when I had to kick it down a gear or two. Brakes were up to par the entire time and felt great. Really no complaints except the gas mileage, but it's to be expected.
Fishing itself up there was great as the bigger fish came out in the ****ty weather (rain most of the day, cooler with temps only getting into the low 70s). A bunch of smallies and largemouth over 3lbs with my buddy getting a 4lb'er. Overall, great day being that the lake has been pretty tough lately.
Here's one of my better ones:
Last night, we decided to do a little overnight tournament at a resevoir that's a little closer. Took the 4R again and with the less hills, this time managed a better 15mpg, but without the A/C on this time around. I hit a new personal best for NJ landing a 5lb largemouth (not big by southern standards, but tougher up here in the north). Other than that, great weekend, great fishing, and some good drives.
