towing a boat with a 2wd 06 4runner??

I want to buy a boat but I am worried that the 2wd will not get my boat out of the water. I am afraid that the traction control will cut my power with wheel slip and will not allow me to get out. is this something i shoud worry about, if so, what are my options with out buying a new car? thanks for your help. its going to be a 21 foot boat, not sure of the weight though. thanks!

Do you have a button the says 'Auto LSD'?

i do have that button. it seems when i have used that in mud or snow, it cut so much power and i think it made it worse because i could not just give it more throttle and get out of the situation. is that what the auto lsd does?

Ok, what's supposed to happen when you push the button is the engine shouldn't get restricted during wheel slip. The Auto LSD (aka ATRAC) activates the brake caliper on the wheel that's slipping to direct that power to the wheel with traction.

If it's very slippery with the Auto LSD button pushed it should pinch the brake on the slipping wheel (which sometimes feels like both wheels) but with enough throttle application it should just power through.

If you don't push that button the VSC will work to reduce engine output; it may reduce it a level where you get stuck.

I think in the end-game if you learn the Auto LSD, read the manual etc your 2wd 4Runner will be a great tow vehicle for what you want to do :bigok:

My 03 V8 Sport has no probs with a dual axle with 20' Reinell. Going uphill on the freeway, it still accelerates with ease!

unless your tires need to be replaced and you're on a steep ramp with lots of algae growth you shouldnt have a problem. 21 footer should weigh between 4000-5000 lbs for boat, motor, and trailer.

The manual sucks. It doesn't differentiate between discussions of 2WD vs 4WD.

I had to learn by experimenting on slippery surfaces.
