Yea, I don't plan on towing in "D", and I don't plan on going over 60 mph. I will make sure that those guys have everything hooked up right. I just wasn't sure if my truck could handle the weight. Thanks again!

I just wanted to say that I have towed the big Uhaul trailer fully loaded here in colorado with my 4runner V8 and it tows like its not even back there, I also tow in 4. I recently bought a travel trailer that weighs about 5000lbs fully loaded and again the 4runner breaks no sweat climbing up the rockies. I also tow with a Suburban that has the two haul mode and that does fine but not as well as the 4runner. I love all that extra torque of that big V8 engine.
P.S. Did you know that the 4Runner V8 is the second fastest midsize SUV besides the hemi powered Jeep Grand cherokee, but you know what, I took on a hemi cherokee the other day and kicked his butt...it was awesome.

I've been experimenting with towing in & out of OD. As yet, I have no real conclusions, other than what has been posted. That is, if the tranny is hunting at all, go the 4th.
My 03 manual is silent about towing in OD (D) except to say that 4th is better for engine braking downhill.
Many say that the OD gears are not as heavy, and shouldn't be used for towing. The proof is supposed to be in the tranny temps. So far while towing recently, I have been in too many hills to determine this. Once I get a nice long, flat run, I can experiment with the tranny temps in & out of OD - and then report back.
One thing I can tell you is towing & driving in OD increases gas mileage by around 10%.

Ok first off I would like to say hello.
My girl friend owns a 03 V8 that we us to tow our boat. A 230 Ex Crownline. Trailer and boat go around 6500 lbs the 4 runner is good for 7500 lbs after making a 4 hour pull up to the lake we have had a vibration around 1600 rpms at 40 to 45 mph it goes away after the rpms come up and does not do this all the time. I think its the tranny or drive shaft? Any input will help thanks.
