Toyota 4Runner 1st-Gen Paint & Chassis Codes + Brochures



Here is the chart of color for the US-Spec 4Runner from 1984.5-1989. If you see an error please post it here and I will correct the page and graphic ASAP. You can upload a photo of your car by clicking on the graphic, then clicking on the appropriate camera icon next to your color.

If you need me to update the chart please post your model year (or production date), color code and a description or photo of your car. For now this is for US-Spec cars only, I will add other countries in the future.

Uh-oh, there is obviously no color chart on that image... I am having trouble locating the available colors for the 1st-Gen 4Runners!

I need someone to start digging up brochures. I was able to locate the 1984 brochure online... and have these colors for 1984.5/1985:

Creme 557

Let me know if you find a brochure and I will update the chart and this post.

Also, post your 1st-gen 4Runner photo WITH the production date or model year, and the paint code as found on the production plate of the truck. The paint code is a three-character code... hopefully someone can post exactly where this can be found as I don't have a 4Runner handy.

If you don't post your year and color code it isn't gonna help -- so please make sure it is complete.

I've been messaging people who are selling the 4Runners on eBay and they are VERY helpful! I just got confirmation that 1985 tan is 557.

I owned a red 1986. Sorry that I can't supply the paint code as it's long gone but red was an option, at least in 86.

At the risk of repeating myself, you are missing red which was available for at least a few years in Gen1 4Runners. In fact, if you look at the top of this forum you will see a sticky for Gen1 Toyotas and the very first one is red and that is the same red that my 86 was painted.

Oh, there are plenty of colors missing... but until I get confirmation of color codes and years from 4Runner owners I can't get them added. Shout out your color code and year and I will get it on the chart.

Check that, I was able to get the color listing out of the 1984 brochure and match the color names up to what I think are the right codes. This allowed me to add Red, Wine Red and Bright Gold to the chart for 1984.

I think there might have been no changes for 1985, but until I see an '85 brochure or someone with a Gold or Red 4Runner shout out their codes I'll just leave the chart alone.
