Toyota FJ Cruiser is scarce, hot and high-priced

Thread is a little old, but was not sure where to put my post.

Short version is: 2011 FJ with 45k miles and 30 large in price. Me thinks that is on topic.

I had an FJ between 2018 and 2020. I put 15k miles on it and just sold it with 195k for 20% more than I paid. The bluebook value went up that much.. I couldn't believe it!

I just don't get why they cost so much

It's pretty simple to understand. It's called the law of supply and demand. Everybody wants them but there are very few available.

If 1000 people want something and only 500 exist, people will pay top dollar to get one of the 500. Prices go up and up and up. One just sold locally here in Indianapolis with something like 46,000 miles on. Whoever bought it paid more than $60K for it.

I'm glad I have mine.

i don't want them! test drove one when they were new, terrible sight lines, like being in a bunker. got a 4runner instead!

Can confirm. I just paid $27k for a 2010 with 87,000 miles. Compared to 4Runner prices right now, it's not too bad. Definitely a bit harder to see out of then the 4R, but there's a cool factor the 4R can't match, to me at least. The FJ feels more solid than the 4R, if that makes sense. Both great trucks, collect them all.

Definitely a bit harder to see out of then the 4R, but there's a cool factor the 4R can't match, to me at least. The FJ feels more solid than the 4R, if that makes sense. Both great trucks, collect them all.

It's not just FJs, it's a lot of older cars that aren't available anymore. Clean Honda Elements are going for a premium. E36 BMW M3s, which are straight hot garbage, are going up. Old 911s, old VW busses, basically anything that has a cool factor to it or isn't available anymore is going up in value. I'd argue not just from the current rise in used car prices, but from a general sense of collectability. New cars suck and are too expensive. Some of these older cars suck less (E36 BMWs excluded), and there's only so many that aren't rusty or wrecked to go around.

visibility sucks in the FJ! i test drove one when they were being produced. it felt like driving in a pillbox/bunker. my '07 has glass house visibility compared to that.

People say that, but I haven’t had any trouble adjusting my mirrors or turning my head.

I have 217k miles on my 08 that I bought new.

If you can use mirrors, visibility is perfectly manageable. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

I have a 21 4Runner OR and my daughter has a 07 FJ TRD SE and i think that the FJ rides as nice. The visibility isn't bad at all.
