I have to say, I've not been this excited about a car in a long, long time. All the reviews, so far, say it is a driver focused sports car and the handling is fantastic.

This car isn't about the numbers. It wasn't about meeting a spec sheet that the marketing team came up with. I think that is what I love about it. It was designed from top to bottom to be the best pure driving experience for the least amount of money. Watch the 2nd video and tell me that doesn't look like an absolute riot.

How is it not a car that's not about numbers? It's related to Scion, no? I've been following this for a while, and a friend of mine is trying to talk me into one for my next "toy".

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but I take this to be a car that's trying to appeal to those looking for fun in driving. Why else would it come manual, and of course, RWD? That is pretty rare nowadays. While appealing, I can't seem to take a liking to the thing; not yet at least. Maybe when it hits the road it will be easier to judge, but it looks a little plain. The front is nice but I feel like they went wrong somewhere.

Not bad for what it is and IIRC it should be sub $20k. Something here is screaming too much "Scion" for me. I can see these becoming popular like the TC.

For what it is though, it's not bad. In terms of an everyday, commuter type car it COULD be fine, but for me to consider it like that, RWD would make it a no-go.

Sounds like the Subaru BRZ will be the uplevel trims and the Scion FR-S will be the stripped model. I'm buying one.

I don't like that it's badged as a Scion, i would much prefer it being a toyota. And im not a Subaru fan, i hope they make a 4 banger turbo standard in it soon.

it probably wont come in a sedan cause it is suppost to be toyota's new version of the AE-86 corolla, and those were only 2 door coups and hatches.

Next gen IS, supposedly. It is a tiny car (just a bit bigger than a Miata), so they'll have to increase the wheelbase significantly.

Not available yet. It isn't going to be a monster in a straight line, but it should be plenty quick. Figure 6 sec to 60, 14.x quarter mile.

I don't think a turbo 4 is planned any time soon. The EJ engines are on the way out and the FB turbo engines aren't yet finished. If it sells well as is, I could see a 1.6 turbo coming at the mid model refresh, but no sooner.

This was hyped up to be a Supra replacement, what we got was a RWD TC.......without a turbo -_-

I never heard that, I heard it was a new day ae-86 or 240s type car, something you could autocross all weekend and then drive back home with no issues. That's the appealing part of this car, it's a bare bones sports car. It will be fun to drive because it will MAKE you drive it hard to be fast, not like a new Mustang or something where all you have to do is hit the skinny pedal and go.

I really really want to get my hands on one of these. If we didn't have our first baby on the way I'd even consider trading the 4runner for one.

You're exactly right. This was never meant to be a Supra replacement. It was always meant to be an inexpensive, fun, pure sports car. Considering the Supra pushed $50k in the 90s, a "new" Supra would be completely outside of my, and most other's, means. This, though, is inexpensive enough that I could actually have it as a 3rd vehicle; a toy. TTAC has a great article with the engineers on the project.

I'm in the same boat as far as children. We planning on having our first this coming year, so I might have to wait a bit, but I'm really, really excited about eventually adding this to my fleet.

Ohh, ok, They did hype up the BRZ though, everyone was guessing 300HP, but its still 200HP. This makes the Genesis look better and better, which i thought i'd never say. I sware toyota would do much better if they would have made a turbocharger standard equipment on the 2.0 motor.

The hype behind the BRZ was some idiot journalist that said that it would have "less than 300hp". Everyone assumed that was going to be 299. :lol: Genesis is 600lbs (or more) heavier. It is more of a V6 Mustang/Camaro competitor. This is more of a hardtop Miata. Below is the Mustang (gray), Genesis (silver), FT-86 II concept (black), and the Miata (red). The Genesis is a good bit bigger and a lot heavier.

I think the Subaru will be positioned as the "nicer" model here in the US and the price will reflect that. Scion is all about having only transmission and color as the only factory options and everything else dealer installed. With all the decontenting of the FR-S, versus the 86/BRZ, makes it pretty clear to me that the Scion will be priced in the low $20k range. It will be the "racer" of the two. Since it would be a toy car for me, I'd choose the FR-S to keep the cost of entry lower. I just need a revy engine, good seats, RWD, a LSD, and a light, responsive chassis. The other stuff just costs extra money.

I stand corrected, but i turbocharging that motor would definetley make me want them, 150 ft/lbs of torque, thats like civic status -_-

Or s2000 status if you think about it.

This car will be plenty quick and most likely an absolute kick in the pants to drive. Like i said earlier a new 5.0 mustang is a kick in the pants to drive but for different reasons. Someone else mentioned hardtop miata, and that sums it up perfectly, albeit in a much less gay package.
