Toyota Minivan goes 318k miles on original engine

318k+ original miles on a 1992 Toyota Previa minivan. Not too shabby....

When I saw the title, I thought it has to be the Previa and I was right. We (well my Wife) has a Previa. I don't like driving it, but she loves it.

Here is a picture of my cars last year. When I got the 04 4Runner, I was for getting rid of the Previa, but my Wife wanted it, so I got rid of the Honda wagon.

The engine is know to last, but the Previa has one big flaw, it has a supplemental drives shaft in the front that turns the belts, it is know as the S.A.D. and they all mess up after awhile. We had ours fixed. The Previa is slow, but they are still going.

Glad to hear your wife likes her Previa. I used to call them "the egg" when they first came out in the early 90's. I'm glad to hear your's is still running good.

My fiancee bought an '03 Highlander several years back and that is what convinced me to move from the dark side (Jeeps) into the light. I was very impressed with the reliability, resale value, and driveability of her Toyota. I bought my '07 4R brand new in June of '07 and the honeymoon period still has not wore off on me yet. At 28k miles she is just barely getting broken in and drives likes she's brand new. My fiancee is already eyeing up my 4R to take as her car when I am done with it. I told her that it would be about another 7 years and it would be a full-on rock crawler by then.

I hope our 05 Sienna will go that many miles too! Of course after 4+ years we have only put about 30k on it.

Good since if I see a Toyota not go at least 250k I'm surprised and disappointed.

I found this TV show called "Wheeler Dealers". It is a British show that gets old cars that are in bad shape and fix them then sell them. They had an old Range Rover that they fixed.

Of course 1/2 million miles is really amazing. The thing about mini-vans is that they really don't last all that long. When I look at 91 Previas on e-bay, I see a few, but if I put in other mini-vans such as a Mazda, Ford etc., I get none that are that old. I tend to only find Previas that old for sale, I guess because all the others are no longer here.

So, I guess 318 miles is not all that amazing for a car to go, but for a mini-van that is saying something.

thats crazy i saw a guy with over 1,043,000 miles on his 95 silverado but he put about 4 engines and 3 tranny's in it. i didnt think that was worth it

You know Toyota still makes this thing. It is in it's thrid generation. So someone still likes it.

As far as how the engine fits, it sits more or less on it's side. You check the oil by going under the drivers car seat. The transmission is behind that and it is real wheel drive. I would think a lot of owners have never seen the engine of their cars.
