Toyota parts made in China?

I just ordered a bunch of front end rebuild stuff from Mcgeorge, and got the same China seal. All the other stuff in my batch was Japan. China manufacturing has greatly improved with reputable companies, hopefully Toyota monitors it closely for quality control and keeps most of manufacturing in Japan.
I own a company and get some of our things manufactured in China. On initial test orders I get mostly good, but some bad (which I reject and never do business with that company again). I find it has more to do with the company than the whole country. The US turns out some garbage product too, but its all connected with that company and its pride of workmanship. But I think all will agree Toyota Japan manufacturing is of highest level.

I feel you. What did your order consist of ? Mine, and this is all OEM from Camelback Toyota.

Everything in two.

Wheel hubs
cv axles
Wheel bearings
All the seals for it
Brake pads
Lbj
Splash shields
All of the components such as abs ring and spacer
Differential side seals where the cv axle goes in

Toyota is still honest and they report where the part is made: So nothing to worry, they know their parts are still in Japanese quality. But about the lower ball joints.... I might buy a pair that is made in Japan... Hard to digest that I am riding on a Chinese made LBJs!

Based on your context and tone, I suspect you meant to say 'they're INostensibly a bunch of commies'.

If you are able to actually engage in manufacturing in mainland China, you will find that the newly minted middle class people there are the most entrepreneurial, resourceful capitalists you will find. They are also very good people that will provide a warm welcome, even to those with radically blanket, ignorant prejudice against a billion people.

You suspect incorrectly, I meant exactly what I said. Based on your context and tone I suspect you meant to say that I'm one of those people with a radically blanket and ignorant prejudice, which is also incorrect. I'm acquainted with many people who've lived there and one who still does. And, "I have [black/gay/manbearpig] friends", in that my girlfriend is Japanese-American, and her BFF is Chinese. I base my value judgements only on the facts available, not on prejudice.

The "warm welcome" you speak of is "Face". You get that even if they don't want to welcome you, because that's the culture. The same way you're expected to decline a gift several times upon their offering, you're generally supposed to decline the "warm welcome" that they offer you. If you don't they'll entertain you and trash you privately as soon as you leave. I don't begrudge them this, plenty of Americans will do the same but, as you say, this is a fact. The warm welcome you receive is generally inauthentic, and even has a name, damned if I can remember it though.

Ironically, your original statement of 'ostensibly a bunch of commies' is correct (although I'm not sure a fact can be ostensible?).

There is no irony if you're agreeing with me, although you seem to contradict yourself with the later half of this statement. It's ostensible because they're communist in name only. The elites can't own Chinese property but they can buy up half of Silicon Valley's real estate. They essentially have one hell of an estate tax but they live like kings while they're alive, and as long as they grease the right palms their kids will too - as long as they don't question The Party. Communism, in the sense recognized as synonymous with Marxism as far as widely accepted definitions go, is not embodied by modern China. They have all the totalitarianism necessary for a successful Communist state blended with all the Capitalism necessary for a financially (and militarily) successful modern global superpower. And that's what makes them dangerous. At least, if you find the idea of social credit unappealing.

My opinion (take it for whatever it's worth to you) is that American efforts should be focused on educating our new generations on HOW we gained our position of greatness and what our previous generations fought so hard for. The socialist undertones of our own policies have easily put our workforce to sleep. Our position as the world's ground zero for consumerism is a gift from those who fought for it, and is not tenable unless we wake up our children (more than hubristic pointing). As of now: we innovate, they manufacture, we buy. The Chinese are extremely smart. I believe their government has allowed the middle class to flourish over the last 20 years which is wildly different from other archaic style communism (N Korea, Venezuala), and a result the Chinese have become formidable innovators. I cast my vote, raise my kids, and spend my money in a fashion that may remove our red tape against entrepreneurism, bring back the honor of graduating from a trade school, and create an awareness that the life we enjoy in America needs to be protected by more than just finger pointing. We need to push innovation, produce, and work hard.

Agree, 100%.

China is extremely capable of best in class manufacturing; Apple is a fine example. They will do what they are told and they will meet the requirements provided. Too many manufacturers place PO's in China based on price without proper supply chain management and quality controls. Yes, they make a lot of junk. A lot. Because the check clears.

I'd place my bets Toyota does a nice job ensuring that any products they have made meet their standards.

Any country can turn out quality products if a foreign company builds the factories, and the machinery, and puts their own boots on the ground 24/7. There's no nobility in using slave labor to turn out a quality product. As I said before, the quality of the product is just one of many reasons I avoid Chinese products whenever possible.

I ordered a new set of OEM lbj. Will be interesting to see where they are made. Although my current OEM lbj are less then 20k miles. Since I’m doing full front end overhaul. I said why not.

I hate to tell you but you will quickly notice the difference. If you ordered a FX lens, you will be able to tell the difference quickly. Its part of the reason I switched to Sony. I know there stuff is probably still made in China but at least I don't feel like I am being taken by paying the high price for Japanese quality and getting stuck with Chinese garbage.

You know Sony did away with Quality Control in 1998 right?

News flash. Even if it’s “made in Japan” it’s probably made with chinese metals these days. China is quite capable of high quality stuff it just depends on what the customers requirements are. The whole “cheap chinese steel” crap is a load of BS. The steel doesn’t know it’s Chinese. Again it all is based on the requirements of the customers needs. The fact still remains that labor costs in the USA have driven manufacturers elsewhere.

You can’t avoid chinese parts. It’s near impossible.

Let’s say you ordered your LBJ from Camelback and it says made in china but it’s a legitimate part are you going to return it?

I'm still piecing stuff together before I get time to tackle the tear down. Here's what I have so far. I was gonna use a manual hub spindles, but I only have a non ABS spindles from a Taco, so I'll put that on another project. This is a very heavy use DD that I really prefer to keep the ABS, I carry a lot of heavy gear. I still need CVs and hubs. I also got some Energy Suspension control arm bushings. My front end is all original with 360K+ on it, still tight but due for a rebuild for sure.

It’s very expensive and a lot of work. But doesn’t it sound so exciting lol??
